Where to Find the Stormcaller Ash of War in Elden Ring

The Stormcaller Ash of War is one of the better abilities you can equip in Elden Ring. Here's how to get it.

If you invade in Elden Ring or enjoy clearing hordes of trash mobs, you’ll want the Stormcaller Ash of War. It creates a windstorm around you that staggers humanoid enemies and enemy players alike. It makes a great option for co-op fights and invasions.

How to Get the Stormcaller Ash of War in Elden Ring

You get the Stormcaller Ash of War by killing a Teardrop Scarab directly across from the Secluded Cell Site of Grace. Easy enough, right? Well, kind of.

The Secluded Cell Grace is before the fight with Godrick the Grafted. You go all the way through Stormveil Castle, over the ramparts, and past the sword birds. Next, go across the battlefield with the cleaver-wielding Omen and into the alcove to the right of Godrick’s golden boss fog.

Rest at the Secluded Cell, then look across the hall through the opening across the way. You will see the Teardrop Scarab sitting there quietly. Killing it immediately awards the Stormcaller Ash of War. Unless you have a powerful ranged weapon or spell, the Scarab will attempt to run away and will disappear if you don’t keep hitting it.

The Best Way to Get the Stormcaller Ash of War

The best way to quickly and easily get Stormcaller is to bring your best weapon and run the Scarab down. Give it no room to breathe and keep hitting it to stagger it, ensuring it doesn’t disappear. Alternatively, you can grab the Secluded Cell Grace when you first encounter it. Then, return to Stormveil Castle much later when you’re at a higher level with better damage.

Returning to Stormveil later lets you bring any late-game gear to the equation, making things easier. Using the Jar Cannon, spells like the Gavel of Haima or Giant’s Flame Take Thee, or other powerful abilities will make getting Stormcaller much quicker.

How to Use Stormcaller Ash of War in Elden Ring

You can equip the Stormcaller Ash of War to most swords and all polearms, axes, hammers, and flails. Once you equip it, using Stormcaller is trickier than finding it. The localized windstorm it creates around you does tons of stagger damage and can easily delete weaker enemies, including invaders or co-op players. However, once you cast it, you’re stuck in the Stormcaller animation for at least a few seconds.

If you get caught using the Ash of War but don’t hit your enemy, you’re a sitting duck. My advice as primarily an invader is to use it to punish co-op enemies if they’re chasing you. Run away until they feel confident, then let them get just close enough and whip out Stormcaller. You’re liable to do at least 50% of their health, if not kill them outright.

For PvE usage, Stormcaller is great against large groups of trash mobs that you can easily stagger. It’s also fantastic against large, slow-moving bosses. Sure, they won’t stagger from it, but you can deal a big chunk of damage during a recovery animation, then roll away when they start attacking again. You can even buff your weapon with Lightinig, Bleed, or Poison for some additional damage.

And that’s where to find and how to use the Stormcaller Ash of War in Elden Ring. We’ve covered plenty of other topics on the game, and you can see them all in our ER guides hub.
