The Occult Arts quest to find the Filthy Wretch in Withering Rooms is the first quest in the game. While these puzzles aren’t too complicated, you must be observant and use the objects found in the environment to solve them. Here is an Occult Arts quest guide that shows you how to open the Gold Chest and obtain the Occult Library key in Withering Rooms.

How to Open the Gold Chest in Withering Rooms

Important note: Each playthrough will be different for every player, meaning the location and combination will be different. However, the solution will always be the same, so I can still walk you through how to complete the quest.

First, you must find the large Gold Treasure Chest in one of the bedrooms accessed from the main hallway. Next, find the piece of paper on the stand next to the chest. You’ll find the combination by reading about the three occupations:

• Job 1 = X
• Job 2 = Y,
• Job 3 = Z

Read the full story and use math to determine how many jobs (X, Y, and Z) remain at the end. The combination to unlock the Gold Treasure Chest in Withering Rooms is XYZ in that order.

How to Obtain the Occult Library Key in Withering Rooms

You’ll receive the Occult Library key after opening the gold treasure chest. Don’t worry, though. It’s a permanent item that persists even after you die, so you won’t have to solve this puzzle every time. After that, go to the hallway and find the Occult Library. Use the key to unlock the door and enter the area. The library is a safe zone, so you can take shelter here if you are about to die, are overwhelmed by monsters, or need to adjust your inventory.
