How to beat Lord Saddler in Resident Evil 4 Remake

The Lord Saddler final boss encounter in the Resident Evil 4 remake takes place at the end of Chapter 16. Once you leave the temple ruins and reach the loading docks, you’ll meet the Merchant, making this the last save hub and point of no return in the entire campaign.

As for the Saddler encounter, you could make quick work of him with the Rocket Launcher if you want. Though arguably more fun to take him down with your arsenal of other guns.

Lord Saddler Boss Fight Phase 1

The first phase of the Resident Evil 4 remake Lord Saddler boss fight takes place in the loading docks area, which has wide pathways that you can use for traversal. Your opponent will transform, turning into a humongous creature that will beeline for Leon. Here’s the gist:

  • Saddler looks a bit like an arachnid, and there’s a small eye in the middle of his “head.” This is somewhat hard to hit, so you’re better off shooting the larger eyes on his legs. This will stun him, allowing Leon to pounce with a melee strike.
  • You can run away from your opponent and climb down the ladder, leading to the larger docking area. There’s a crank along the opposite side that creates a walkway, too.
  • If Saddler jumps to the top of the crane, he’ll do a devastating ground smash that will destroy a portion of the arena. However, if he repositions closer to explosives and other hazards, you can use those against him.
  • Your foe will also periodically summon Novistadors, the annoying flying bugs. Make sure you shoot them quickly or they’ll pester you throughout the encounter.

Your best bet when dealing with this phase of the Lord Saddler final boss fight in the Resident Evil 4 remake is to use upgraded weapons (as noted in our best weapon upgrades guide).

The Red9/Blacktail, Stingray, and CQBR Assault Rifle perform admirably here. Go ahead and pop the “leg eyes” before closing in for a melee sequence. If you’re able to do this roughly three times, you’ll move on to the next part.

Lord Saddler Boss Fight Phase 2

The Lord Saddler boss fight has a shorter and simpler second phase. This time, Leon is surrounded by Saddler’s tentacles, though the central core is visible. As such, you’ll want to continue shooting it with your weapons.

Your foe will also attempt to smash you with tentacles. If you see a sweeping motion, you can press the button prompt to evade it. But, if you see a forward smash, you have to be ready to parry or sidestep.

Shortly thereafter, Ada Wong will return and toss a special Rocket Launcher to Leon. Aim and fire the explosive, and Saddler will turn into calamari.

RE4 Remake Escape Sequence

After you beat Lord Saddler in RE4, there’s a short cutscene, followed by the entire facility going up in smoke. Now, you’ll need to escape with Ashley following you.

This entire section has a self-destruct sequence and you have to escape within 2:10. Think of this as a slightly cinematic experience, as you don’t really end up fighting other enemies, but there’s one last Clockwork Castellan that you’d want to be aware of.

Eventually, the two will reach a jetski. The goal in this high-speed sequence is to move sideways to avoid crumbling pillars and large obstacles. The timer will continue running here but, if you manage to survive, you’ll be able to watch the game’s ending and see your completion rank.

With all that, you’ve slain Lord Saddler and saved Ashley.. until your next playthrough, where you’ll do it all over again but cooler. Check out some of our other RE4 remake guides here on GameSkinny for some help with that.
