Hogwarts Legacy: How to Use a Broom
Harry Potter fans have been living their spell-casting dreams in the wizarding world of Hogwarts Legacy. On top of learning iconic spells and curses, it’s possible to learn how to fly as well. And for that, you'll need to know how to use a broom.
Flight in Hogwarts Legacy is vital to adventuring around the massive open world. If nothing else, it’s fun to zip around the Wizarding school and surrounding areas on a broom. Unlocking flight in Hogwarts Legacy is actually less complicated than it might seem.
How to Get a Broom in Hogwarts Legacy
Unfortunately, brooms are not instantly available in Hogwarts Legacy. We go over that in our guide to picking one up. But to make things easier: here's what you'll need to do.
After reaching level 6, the main story will open up with a mission called “Flying Class”. It's here you'll learn the basics of flying from Madam Kogawa.
After flying through hoops (literally) and completing Kogawa’s mission, you can go to Mr. Weekes shop, Spintwitches Sporting Needs to purchase your own broom to traverse the skies around Hogwarts Legacy. After buying a broom, Mr. Weekes will mention that most have a limitation, and after the optional "Flight Test" mission, he'll offer to help break those with upgrades.
How to Fly with a Broom in Hogwarts Legacy
Flying with the broom is pretty straightforward. First, you'll need to be in a fly zone. Flight is not allowed in every area, but when and where it is, you can hop on a broom anytime. To do this, hold LB/L1 or press Tab to open the Tool Wheel, and press Circle/B to hop on your broom. The controls are as follows:
- Use the left stick to fly in any direction.
- The right stick controls elevation.
- Hold R2/RT to speed up.
- Tap L2/LT to get a burst of speed.
- Dismount by holding B.

There is plenty of time to get familiar with the controls during Madam Kogawa’s class at Hogwarts, which already teaches you the basics. After unlocking the “Flight Test” mission, you're tasked with beating a time trial made by Imelda Reyes. This puts you in a race against the clock, so it is a great opportunity to get accustomed to the controls and handling speed.
Knowing how to use a broom and mastering the art of flying is one of the many important elements in Hogwarts Legacy. Looking for more information and guides on Hogwarts Legacy? Check out the Hogwarts Legacy guides page.
