Dying Light 2: All Windmill Locations & How to Activate Them

Here's where to find every Windmill in Dying Light 2 to set up an integral part of your safe zone network.

Windmill locations in Dying Light 2 act similarly to Nightrunner’s Hideouts by providing you a safe zone to rest and stash weapons and items. They also add more UV light sources across Villedor, as well as stores where you can buy and sell goods to merchants.

You’ll want to also seek these out for two trophies or achievements: Sancho Panza for activating your first and Don Quixote for activating all 17 across Old Villedor and the Central Loop.

How to Activate Windmills

To activate Windmills, you’ll need to solve small parkour puzzles, climbing to the top of each to reset breakers and fuses. As you increase your stamina rating by finding more Inhibitors and applying them to your stamina level, more locations will become available. One requires the paraglider and one requires the grappling hook.

Highlight a Windmill on the overworld map and look for the lightning icon in the upper portion of their card that appears on the left side of the screen. This is the amount of stamina you need to climb to the top.

  • White icons mean that you have enough stamina to unlock the Windmill.
  • Red icons mean you do not have enough stamina to unlock them.
  • Green icons mean you have unlocked them already.

Further, Rank indicates the overall difficulty of the enemies around the location. So if you’re player rank is Rank 1, Rank 2 Virals and Infected may give you a little more trouble, while Rank 5s will be incredibly difficult.

You can see a territory’s Rank by highlighting the borough itself. The numbers in the bottom left corner (Trinity’s 1-2, for example) indicate the minimum and maximum rank of enemies and locations in the territory. You can also see a location’s Rank by highlighting it on the overworld map and looking in the top left corner.

How to Assign Windmills to Survivors or Peace Keepers

You don’t actively assign Windmills, and they are not considered a Facility. Instead, you assign Water Towers and Electrical Substations. Once you do, the Windmills in these territories that you’ve assigned to either Survivors or Peace Keepers reflect the assignment.
