You won’t find many people talking about desynthesizing (or desynthing) their items in Final Fantasy XIV. Still, it’s a part of the crafting process that series Disciples of the Hand all eventually delve into, either for profit or the materials they can get through dismantling.
You can get unique materials for desynthing items, some of which are high-end crafting mats. Often what you receive when desynthing an item is a component it is made of.
In this guide, we’ll go over how to desynth in FFXIV, something any long-time crafter or Diadem fishing grinder is well tired of but keeps doing in the name of profit.
How to Unlock Desynth in FFXIV
First, you need to get any Disciple of the Hand to Level 30, though chances are you’ve already done so if you’re reading this guide and are trying to get into the not-very-exciting world of desynthing.
You also must have completed the MSQ “Life, Materia and Everything”, which is a mere Level 18 quest, and you also probably finished by now since you can’t skip it, and it’s way back in A Realm Reborn.
The third and final piece of this puzzle is a little blue quest titled “Gone to Pieces”, which is found in Ul’dah’s Steps of Thal and given by Syntgoht the Roegadyn just near the market boards close to the Aetheryte to Sapphire Avenue Exchange.
The quest isn’t much, and you’ll have the ability to desynth in no time.
Desynthesizing Explained: Dismantle 101
Once you have desynthesizing unlocked, you can access desynthesis in the Actions & Traits menu, where you find your skills normally. It’s under the General tab, probably right next to the Glamour Plate icon.
From the desynthesis menu, you simply choose what you would like to desynth and dismantle, and your character will take care of the rest.
If you are desynthing stackable items, you will be able to process whole stacks of them at once. This takes a little time, depending on the size of the stack, but think of it as an opportunity to take a short breather.
That’s all you need to know about how to desynth in Final Fantasy XIV, and if you get really into it, you’ll be very glad to have the mass-desynth option. It used to be you had to process and dismantle even stackable items individually.
