Wartales: Adaptive or Region-locked Exploration Explained

Having a hard time figuring out which Exploration mode does what in Wartales? We've got you covered.

There are two main game modes in Wartales, Adaptive Exploration or Region-locked Exploration. These effect how you play the game and what order you could end up exploring different areas. Here are the main differences between Adaptive and Region Locked Exploration modes in Wartales.

Adaptive vs. Region-locked Exploration Differences

Adaptive Exploration

As the name implies, Adaptive Exploration takes your level and adjusts the enemies to be at an appropriate difficulty.

No matter where your adventure takes you, enemies will scale to meet your level. This will ensure you have a challenge each time you fight enemies, without them being too strong or too weak.

Region-locked Exploration

Region-locked Exploration sounds like an area will be off limits until you’re powerful enough to survive there. That’s not the case, making this more of a traditional RPG experience.

This exploration mode has locked the mobs of the area at certain levels and difficulties, regardless of what level you’re at or where in the story you are. This means that you can wander into a new area of the map and be totally decimated by a troupe of bandits 10 levels higher than you without even knowing you’re in a higher level area.

Along with having areas that are higher than your level, once you’ve played for a while and your team is fairly strong, there will be plenty of areas that are lower than your level.

Which Exploration Mode to Choose

Both Adaptive Exploration and Region-locked Exploration have their pros and cons. Adaptive makes the game less difficult, allows you to scale throughout the whole game and not have to worry too much about where you wander. It doesn’t let you face off against weaker foes just to farm for components or Krowns.

Region-locked Exploration can cause you to lose many companions or even reach game over if you wander into the wrong place. It limits where you may want to go next and how your story advances. It does, however, let you farm low level mobs for items, create a game plan for your gameplay and provide more of a challenge if you want it.

Choosing which mode is best is something you’ll have to decide based on your playstyle. If you can keep track of where you are and like having easier and challenging enemies in certain areas, Region-locked Exploration will probably be better for you. If you tend to get lost regardless of looking at a map or just like wandering the world without worrying about enemies, Adaptive Exploration will most likely lead to less frustration.
