Battlefield 4 is up and running, and because of the game’s popularity, there are bound to be some hiccups along the way. The game launched at 12:01am today (Oct. 29th) for North and South America, East and Central Asia, and Russia–and there have been a few problems with their Play Now feature. I’m not sure if it is because of the servers overloading, but there is a way to work around the mess.
The problem
When you Launch Battlefield 4 from Origin, you will come to your main Battlelog screen. Once there, you will need to click ‘play Multiplayer’ and you will come to your multiplayer screen where normally you would be able to click on a game mode and hit ‘play now’ to be on your way. But there is an error that will not let you connect this way. The error is on EA’s end, and will be a red bar at the bottom of your screen.
The solution
The way to fix this issue as of the time I am writing this, is to go to the ‘server browser’ section that is located at the top of your multiplayer screen next to the play now button.
Under this tab, you will find servers that are open and available for playing. Most of the servers are correct in depicting how many players are in the server, but if you go to one that is listed in the recommended section–the three servers shown in the above screen cap–there is a chance that you will end up in a server with no players at all.
The only solution to this is going to a server that actually lists how many players are in the allotted number allowed, and you can find those servers in the ‘server browsers’ section I mentioned which will look something like this:
These kind of issues are common in games that are as popular as Battlefield and could be a simple capacity issue with one of EA’s servers. But there are almost always ways to work around it.
