Your second fight with Ketheric Thorm is over, but now you’re facing the Apostle of Myrkul. Two fights in a row can drain your resources, but you can strategize in a way to make the battle a bit easier. Depending on your party composition, scrolls might be your best option. In this guide we’ll go over how to beat Apostle of Myrkul in Baldur’s Gate 3.
How to Beat Apostle of Myrkul in Baldur’s Gate 3
Apostle of Myrkul has a Bone Chill Aura that prevents healing for those near him, but he also has limited mobility that you can use to your advantage.
If you have Nightsong, she can act as a tank and damage dealer alike. Otherwise, you’ll need to bring a character like Karlach or Shadowheart using Shield of Faith to absorb hits. Assuming you’ve cleared out the adds from the Ketheric Thorm portion of the fight, you can send your ranged party members up the platforms to get the High Ground advantage.
Stack AOE on Apostle of Myrkul
Because Apostle of Myrkul is unable to move from his position, AOE abilities that deal damage each turn are incredibly strong against him. Between spells and scrolls, I had multiple instances of Cloud of Daggers on him as well one instance of Hunger of Hadar, which does Acid Damage to him even though he has resistance to the Cold Damage it can deal.
Disarm Apostle of Myrkul
With the AOE spells in place, you can spend time dealing more damage to burn Apostle of Myrkul down as quickly as possible. It also wouldn’t hurt to have abilities like Heat Metal or Disarm available to make him drop his weapon and deal less damage to your tank. He’ll spawn adds, but using AOE means you can take care of them without sacrificing too much damage.
Prevent Apostle of Myrkul from Consuming Adds
From here, it’s a matter of staying alive and preventing Apostle of Myrkul from consuming adds to regain health. Keep AOE on him as long as you can for extra damage and continue with this strategy until he finally falls. Of course, it won’t hurt to have a healthy stock of Healing Potions with you so you can use Spell Slots against the bosses.
That’s one strategy for how to beat Apostle of Myrkul in Baldur’s Gate 3, and it was what worked best for my playthrough. Having Nightsong alive and able to help was incredibly useful, but the fight is possible without her.
