Mortal Kombat 1 has a huge variety of stages to choose from and every one of them is pretty gorgeous (even when they’re gruesome). That being said, anyone who dives straight into the multiplayer side of things or even the practice modes will be sure to realize that one is greyed out. Here’s how to unlock The Pyramid in MK1.
How to Unlock the Pyramid Stage in Mortal Kombat 1
In order to unlock the final stage, you’ll need to complete the campaign mode. In addition to a rare reward of Dragon Krystals, some gear for Shang Tsung, and the one locked character on the main roster, you’ll also acquire The Pyramid stage as soon as you finish the final battle. It will then be available for all modes, whether you’re fighting the CPU or choosing where to fight online with your custom fighters.

Locked stages aren’t anything new for the series. Mortal Kombat 11 similarly kept its boss stages locked until the campaign was completed, while Mortal Kombat X had some hidden in The Krypt.
What Is the Pyramid Stage in Mortal Kombat 1
Although this takes up one spot on the select screen, it technically comes with three different stages. Whereas others have alternate looks, such as Day and Night, The Pyramid is split between Bottom, Middle, and Top. The Top is the version you’ll see when you fight the boss in the Character Towers.
There are some story spoilers regarding this location, but we’ll try to avoid them as best we can. What you need to know is that all three versions of The Pyramid are used during the story campaign. It’s the setting for what might just be the most hectic battle in the series’ history. While it isn’t the flashiest arena to unlock, it’s undoubtedly a significant and fun one, given its history.
That’s everything you need to know about unlocking The Pyramid in Mortal Kombat 1. When it comes to other secrets to find, it will help to know how to unlock brutalities as well. Plenty of other tips can be found on our MK1 guides page.
