How Many People Can Play Phasmophobia? Answered

Phasmophobia follows the trend on how many people can play the game at once.

There are some co-op games where the multiplayer portion is an afterthought, and others where it’s the main focus. It’s the latter option in Phasmo, as it’s primarily multiplayer-focused. Here, I go over how many people can play Phasmophobia at once.

How Many Players is Phasmophobia Multiplayer: How Many Can Join a Lobby?

The magic number for co-op games seems to be four players, and that’s how many people can play Phasmophobia together at once. While games with modding communities like Lethal Company have multiplayer mods that increase the player cap, that’s not the case here. But unlike LC, it’s very possible and common to play Phasmophobia solo.

While you can play Phasmo with four players, that doesn’t mean you’ll necessarily be completing investigations faster. Ghosts manifest and provide evidence in their own time unless provoked with cursed objects, meaning you’ll be hunting them at about the same rate regardless of how many people are in your lobby.

Ghosts trigger hunts based on the overall team’s sanity, as well, so you may experience more hunts in multiplayer when playing with newer players who don’t know how to manage their sanity. Anytime another player dies to the ghost, the whole team loses some sanity, which can cause more hunts. Otherwise, the experience isn’t changed that much with varying amounts of players.

Is It Possible to Play Phasmophobia Solo?

Let me tell you: I’ve played my last 100 hours of the game almost entirely solo, with a large portion in Nightmare mode. The biggest content creators for the game, like Insym, also play Phasmophobia by themselves, often on Insanity difficulty. It’s very possible to play the game by yourself if you want.

Playing Phasmophobia solo doesn’t require much else than when playing with a group. You still have to take in all your tools, you still have to check the monitor, but you don’t have to worry about other players getting too low sanity or using cursed objects and triggering hunts.

The only real difference is that it’s definitely a bit spookier on your own, but once you’re experienced and good at it, it’s more of a puzzle game than a horror game.

And that’s it for how many people can play Phasmophobia, as well as whether you can play it solo. The four-player cap might be a little disappointing, but it keeps the fear high.
