Rebirth is mentioned continuously throughout the game, and the TV screens won’t let you forget it, but how do you become Reborn in The Outlast Trials?

How to Rebirth in The Outlast Trials and Why You Want to Do It

If you’ve played the first Outlast and have been reading documents found both in that game and in The Outlast Trials, you might have figured out what being Reborn means (if not, beware of spoilers ahead). But finishing your therapy and becoming Reborn requires a bit of effort.

How to Unlock the Final Trial

The first step in becoming Reborn is to unlock Program X. To do this, you’ll need to complete every task in Programs 1, 2, and 3. Afterwards, you’ll be able to enter Program X.

The second step is to complete every task in Program X. Each time you complete a task in Program X, you get a Freedom Token. In order to be Reborn, you need 10 Freedom Tokens.

Once you have 10 Freedom Tokens, you can turn them into the worker beside the lone hallway with vegetation that normally blocks you when you try to pass through. I spent too much time trying to glitch through this section, but it seems that Murkoff’s security for the final Trial is too tight to do so.

What Happens After Being Reborn

Without getting into too many spoilers, the final Trial is solo and set in the same mansion as the introduction, but there are more enemies and it’s overall more difficult. Story-wise, you’ll receive a new identity before earning your freedom, and then a cutscene will play after you complete the final Trial.

After your rebirth, you get to make a new character. You keep the majority of your progress except for Program X, so being Reborn again means going through those tasks once more. The only real draw at the time of writing is to unlock one of the 10k outfits. From here, you can repeat the cycle as many times as you want. And we have The Outlast Trials guides to help like how to recharge Rigs.
