If you’re a long-time fan of the series like me, you may be wondering how to get Epona in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. While there are a ton of horses to find in the game, only one really matters. Epona has been Link’s faithful steed since Ocarina of Time, appearing in Majora’s Mask, Minish Cap, Twilight Princess, and Breath of the Wild. Our guide tells you how to get Epona in TotK.
Where to Find Epona in The Legend of Zelda (TotK)
Unfortunately, you can’t get Epona by finding her in the wild. You’ll have to get her using Amiibo. To get Epona, you’ll need to complete the tutorial and get to Hyrule before you can use your Amiibo to summon Epona. Once you do, either scan the Super Smash Bros. Link Amiibo or the Twilight Princess Link Amiibo. Doing so should spawn her right next to Link, though you’ll have to register Epona at a stable if you want to keep her.
Amiibo rewards are randomly selected from each Amiibo’s pool, so you may not get Epona on your first scan. You can use each Amiibo once a day, so if you don’t get her, just try again the next day.

If you have a save file from Breath of the Wild where you’ve already gotten Epona, she and your other horses will be imported to Tears of the Kingdom the first time you talk to the man behind the counter at any stable.
Epona is a great horse. She starts out at Max Bond level with Link, and she has 4 Stars in Strength, Speed, and Stamina. She can’t pull carriages or other objects since she doesn’t have any Pull stat. You also can’t rename her, replace her saddle, or attach a towing harness to her. But that’s all OK with me, as long as she’s in TotK.
