FFXV Guide : What To Do in the End Game

We run through a selection of activities you can do after completing the main story of Final Fantasy XV.
We run through a selection of activities you can do after completing the main story of Final Fantasy XV.

Final Fantasy XV is an epic game, and you don’t have to stop playing when you have completed the main story and watched the credits! There are a number of things you can do after you complete the game, which keeps getting bigger and bigger with the free online updates introduced since its launch in November 2016.

After Patch 1.05, which also included additions to the main story, the level cap was raised 120, so maxing out your chocobros’ levels is one possibility. (Check out our guide to farming EXP and leveling quickly for more info on how to do that.)

If that's not enough, you can also collect the remaining Royal Arms and legendary weapons; level up your characters’ individual abilities, win chocobo races, defeat massive bosses, and dig into the DLC that features other characters.

In this guide, we'll take you through a selection of exciting post-story adventures that you can embark on to keep your FFXV experience going strong.

Collect the Remaining Royal Arms and Legendary Weapons

You will have obtained 7 Royal Arms in FFXV by completing the story. However, there are 6 more which you will have to complete sidequests for. They are broken up as follows:

Royal Arms Obtained Through Story Quests
  • Sword of the Wise - Chapter 2
  • Axe of the Conqueror – Chapter 2
  • Swords of the Wanderer - Chapter 3
  • Blade of the Mystic - Chapter 4
  • Katana of the Warrior - Chapter 10
  • Trident of the Oracle - Chapter 12
  • Sword of the Father - Chapter 13
Royal Arms Obtained in Side Quests
  • Bow of the Clever - Balouve Mines
  • Star of the Rogue - Myrlwood
  • Sword of the Tall - Costlemark Tower
  • Shield of the Just - Thommels Glade
  • Mace of the Fierce - The Rock of Ravatogh
  • Scepter of the Pious - Malmalam Thicket

In addition to the Royal Arms, there are also five legendary weapons to collect. These have a tremendous attack power and can be found in various locations throughout Lucis.

To start your legendary weapons collection, visit the weapons shop near the stairs to the power plant in Lestallum. You’ll know you’re at the right place when the person you are speaking to is called Randolph (he will only appear after you have completed the game).

Leveling Up Abilities

If you rushed through the story, chances are that you didn’t level all each character's individual abilities. Each of these abilities can be maxed out to Level 10.

Noctis – Fishing
  1. Buy the Death Rod from Bert’s Bobbers ‘n’ Stuff at the East Bank of the Vesperpool.
  2. Fish using the Death Rod, Malboro lures, and your best reel (usually Dragonsbeard Silk) at the East Bank of the Vesperpool for 2-3 hours.
  3. Wait 2 in-game days before resting to gain the experience points.

You can travel to Altissia to buy a better fishing reel than what you get at Bert’s shop. Once you have won 85,000 medals in the Totomostro mini-game, you can buy the Llymlaen fishing reel.

For more info on how to level this skill efficiently, check out our guide to fishing in FFXV.

Gladiolus – Survival

The hack for this one is pretty old school – put a rubber band around both the joysticks to get this character to run around for 3 hours! Doing so will get Gladdy up to Level 10 without any work on your part. Don’t believe me? Check out this community guide over at Reddit.

Ignis – Cooking

The easiest way to max out this skill is as follows:

  1. Buy 50 pieces of Luncheon Meat from Lestallum. This will get Ignis to learn the Mystery Meat Sushi
  2. Cook this at every camp.

Again, pretty straightforward! Once you've got this skill maxed out, you'll want to learn the best recipes in FFXV to make your adventures a little easier.

Prompto – Photography

Make sure you have Snapshot activated on the Exploration Ascension grid. This gets Prompto to take a photo in every battle. Then use it when you battle by selecting Prompto’s Limit Break. That’s all there is to it! You should be up to Level 10 in no time at all.

Chocobo Races

These races are easily missable, as they are just across the way from the main Wiz Chocobo Post. The Chocobo races are split into two tiers, with the final race pitting you against Gladiolus’ sister, Iris.

Tier 1 Races
  • Noctis vs Prompto
  • Noctis vs Ignis
  • Chocobo Races: Orange Gallop
Tier 2 Races
  • Noctis vs Ignis
  • Full Field
  • Chocobo Hoops: Rocky Road
Final Race
  • Noctis vs Iris

Like kart racers, you can start off with a speed boost if you time your button presses right. GameFAQ user HeeroXXXG-01W discovered that if you start holding R2 (or RT on Xbox) after the number 3 disappears in the countdown to the race, you get a speed boost. You can also get your chocobo to eat greens such as Sylkis Greens for a pre-race power up.

New Free Content and DLC

Free Content
  • Timed Quests are, as the name suggests, quests which are available for a limited period -- like the Dread Behemoth timed quest. You have to be in a certain location on the map to trigger each of these quests.
  • Offroad Driving is now available with the Regalia Type-D! To unlock the vehicle, which is basically a monster truck, talk to Cindy in Hammerhead. This vehicle is available to you after you complete Chapter 3 if you have only just recently started the game.
Episode Gladiolus

This very short episode sees Gladiolus partnered with his mentor, Cor. He undertakes the trials of Gilgamesh to prove himself a worthy bodyguard to Prince Noctis. There are a total of seven achievements or trophies in this DLC, so you completionists will have a few extra things to hunt down.  After successfully completing your first playthrough, you unlock a special boss fight with Cor.

Episode Prompto

Episode Prompto picks up shortly after Noctis accidentally pushed Prompto off a speeding train. Prompto collapses in the snow and is taken by Ardyn and Magitek Troopers to a Magitek facility, where he finds out about his origins.

There are loads of side quests in this DLC, making it more expansive than Episode Gladiolus. For example, you can take out the optional Kaiser Behemoth boss, or do time trials. Like the Gladiolus DLC, this expansion has more trophies/achievements for you to collect as well,

But wait, there’s more!

This guide has really only scratched the surface on what you can do post-game. You can also:

  • Fly around in the Regalia
  • Collect Chocobo Pears
  • Find and clear Pitioss Dungeon – a platforming dungeon where Final Fantasy meets Crash Bandicoot
  • Find all the ingredients and recipes that Noctis can cook
  • Collect Ribbons to protect against status ailments
  • Clear the Menace Dungeons
  • Get all the Accessories
  • Complete the Frogs Quests

Once you've completed all these objectives, you can check back with the FFXV subreddit, where the community has put together a full list of activities you can take part in -- and it's being updated constantly.
