Rocket League's Season 8 Championship is coming up, airing from December 13 to 15, and ELEAGUE will broadcast two brand-new Rocket League Championship feature shows, one providing an inside look at the championship and one recapping all of the action.

The first special will give viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the contending teams and players. This guide to the who's who in Rocket League's Season 8 Championship will air December 13 at 11 p.m. EST on TBS. Some of the highlights include Vitality and Pittsburgh Knights, plus Vitality’s star player Scrub Kill.

The second special will run on December 20 at 11 p.m. EST on TBS. It recaps the best, pulse-pounding moments from the Championship matches. So fret not if you miss any of the action over the weekend.

ELEAGUE is no stranger to Rocket League and esports in general. It has covered plenty of Rocket League championship material in the past, along with many other tournaments ranging from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate to Dota 2 and Street Fighter 5

All of this is part of an increasing trend in esports visibility, where brands offer insider looks at the bigger names in the industry while simultaneously helping esports become more mainstream.

Two Point Hospital

\n

From now until November 1, players can decorate hospitals with Halloween bits and bobs, listening to scary music over the hospital PA, and duck boisterous bats in the hallways.

\n

Certain illnesses will even get Halloween-themed updates, such as Lightheadedness getting renamed Firghtheadedness, with patients sprouting pumpkins for heads instead of lightbulbs.

\n

those who don't already own the game can grab it for 66% off on Steam until November 1.

\n

The 1.4 update includes myriad fixes to combat, weapons, armor, items, and more. It even squashes a few pesky bugs. But(!), it doesn't squash spiders, which feature heavily in because Halloween.

Gears 5: Pumpkin Ball and More

\n

Gears 5 is bringing Pumpkin Ball back for Halloween this year, which is basically a pumpkin version of dodgeball, and it's also giving you the chance to earn a special Frankenstein skin by winning 13 matches of Pumpkin Ball before the event ends on November 4.

\n

This isn't your typical game of dodge, er, Pumpkin Ball, though. Players automatically revive unless you target specific, zombie-like weak points, including the head or the universal weakness to massive explosions.

The event started on October 22, with more planned sometime this week as well, so stay tuned for more info as it becomes available.

Elder Scrolls Online: The Witches Festival

\n

The Witches Festival returns once more in Elder Scrolls Online, bringing with it a gaggle of ghoulish goodies for your Halloween pleasure. The event starts October 24 at 10am EST and ends November 4 at the same time.

\n

One way to get the party started is earning tons more XP, and to do that, you'll need to complete "The Witchmother's Bargain" quest from the Crown store then use the Whistle you get as a reward.

\n

The Witches Festival has plenty more on offer as well, including Festival-themed collectibles and costumes, Dremora Plunder Skulls (complete with new items) earned through defeating special bosses once per day, and the Glenmoril Armor set.

Mario Kart Tour Halloween Event

\n

Mario Kart Tour is joining in the spooky fun this season, with some sort of Halloween event centered around a Luigi's Mansion course. The official tweet announcing the event only said we can get tricks and treats out of it.

\n\n

Sort of unrelated to the event, but not really because it is Luigi's Mansion after all, is the announcement that Luigi is coming to Mario Kart Tour as of now. (Apparently, he lost his keys and couldn't get there when the game first launched).

\n

Much to Luigi's undoubted dismay, the Halloween event is adding King Boo as a playable character too.

Don't Starve: Hallowed Nights 2019

\n

Klei Entertainment's lovable death simulator Don't Starve Together's Halloween 2019 event is the return of Hallowed Nights, starting October 24. The Klei blog post announcing the event's return said it'll largely include the same things as last year, with a few new treats and tricks.

\n

That means Candy items, Halloween Decorations, and Trinkets you can give to the Pig King for Candy. Candy is good in Don't Starve, because unlike other food items, it never spoils.

\n

Last year's Hallowed Nights also introduced the Mad Science Lab, where you could engineer a number of potions with a variety of positive effects — but at the expense of your sanity.

\n

Though not technically part of Hallowed Nights, October 24 is when we'll see Wurt the Merm make her debut in Don't Starve as well.

First is the Trick or Treasure! Facility Event, which introduces Nightmare difficulty, new items to obtain, and more. It's accompanied by a new set of Daily and Live Endeavors that'll run through October 31 as well.

\n

Thanks to Perfectly-Nintendo distilling the patch notes, we also know the special Halloween Fantasia summoning event will include the following:

\n
    \n
  • Halloween Mym (Adventurer)
  • \n
  • Halloween Maritimus (Dragon)
  • \n
  • Halloween Lowen (Adventurer)
  • \n

Sea of Thieves: Fort of the Damned

\n

Things are taking a decidedly spooky turn for Xbox One and Windows 10 players this month in Sea of Thieves. The game's monthly content update this time around is, naturally, Halloween related, and it's no barebones update either.

\n

Old Boot Fort has been overrun by the forces of evil, turning it into the Fort of the Damned, managed by the Shadow of Fate Skeletons.

\n

This fort can be activated as long as the requirements are met, and it brings with it new Voyages, new Contracts from Duke, and some big rewards. More importantly, these additions aren't just for October; they'll continue on as a permanent part of the game.

\n

There'll also be new arena rules, new items and pets from the Emporium, and even a new way to play Shanties. The full details are here.

Fallout '76 Mischief Night

\n

Fallout '76's Halloween event this year is Mischief Night, letting you take full advantage of the day to wreak utter havoc on Whitespring. Mischief Night kicks off at noon EST on October 26 and runs until the same time on November 5, and it begins "every hour, on the hour." It's a public event, which means free fast travel too.

\n

You'll start off at the Mischief Pyre near the Springhouse Gazebo, and after hearing about the rogue Eyebot JES-2R's dark plans, you're in for a quick tour of the resort area.

\n

From there, you can destroy property and vehicles, vandalize buildings, risk getting tricked at one of the treat bowls, and basically do whatever your little black heart desires — as long as the Whitespring Elite Security Force doesn't catch you.

\n

Complete JES-2R's missions to earn rewards, and wearing or crafting your own costume helps further your progress towards unlockables.

\n

Check out the full details here.

For Honor's Otherworld 2019 Event

\n

For the past two years, Ubisoft's For Honor has hosted an event centering around the Otherworld concept, with plenty of spooky challenges, quests, special rewards, Halloween versions of familiar characters, and of course, loads of lootable gear.

\n

The event usually runs well beyond Halloween too. As yet, like with many others, there aren't any concrete details about For Honor's Halloween event, but we'll update as soon as we find out more.

Hearthstone Hallow's End: Doom in the Tomb

\n

Blizzard finally lifted the lid on Hearthstone's Hallow's End 2019 event. This year's special Halloween event is Doom in the Tomb; it starts October 8 at 10 a.m. PDT/1 p.m. EDT and runs for three weeks until October 30 at 9 a.m. PDT/12 p.m. EDT.

\n

As always, there'll be unique Tavern Brawls with rewards for completing missions under a certain time, plus trials in the Haunted Temple for both good and E.V.I.L. to overcome. Naturally, the Headless Horseman will be making his appearance as well.

\n

Some of the Tomb's treasures might seem familiar to longtime players as well, with classic cards like the Druid, Imp Gang Boss, and Imp Burglard making a return.

\n

There's a lot more involved, and you can read about it plus all the rewards on offer here.

Killing Floor 2: Grim Treatments

\n

Tripwire Studios' Killing Floor 2 Halloween event is already underway, with the launch of Grim Treatments earlier this month.

Grim Treatment is a free update that brings in a variety of Halloween Zeds, up to their ears (or whatevers) in blood and gore, a brand-new map in the form of Ashwood Asylum, special cosmetic items, and Nuked Objective Mode.

Nuked has special quests and cutscenes, but the main objective centers around the attempt to rescue a small child in the aftermath of nuclear fallout, and of course, there are plenty of Zeds trying to stop you.

League of Legends The Harrowing 2019

\n

The Harrowing is basically an institution in League of Legends. It's a yearly fright-fest that ties in with the game's lore, focusing on the Black Mist and, well, death. Because it's Halloween.

\n

The big draw in The Harrowing tends to be the special Champion skins on offer, plus various ranks of gear, and plenty of other additions to get you in the Halloween spirit.

\n

So far, there's absolutely nothing about this year's Harrowing, but since we're well into October now, that'll likely change soon.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 Halloween Event

\n

There will, in fact, be a Star Wars Battlefront 2 Halloween event this year. Shared on EA Star Wars' official Twitter account, the event will begin on October 23 and end on October 31.

The event will center around the Ewok hunt on Endor, which, unsurprisingly, will be at night.

Dead by Daylight Withering Blight Event

\n

This year's Dead by Daylight Hallowed Blight event, called Withering Blight, was leaked during the Stranger Things event over the summer. That said, only the existence of the Halloween event was leaked. Since then, we've learned a little bit more.

\n

The event will run from October 22 to November 1. Not only will it bring "spooky decorations" to the world of Dead by Daylight, but items from Halloweens past, including:

  • The Will O' Wisp flashlight
  • \n
  • The All Hallows' Eve lunchbox

You can find these limited-time items scattered throughout newly generated Bloodwebs and in chests for the duration of the event. You will keep any leftover items and be able to use them year round, but be warned: Any unused Pustula Petals will stay in your inventory, but will not be useable after the event period.

\n

Following feedback from the Hallowed Blight event last year, Pustula Petals will instead create a pair of event Hooks and Generators for each Offering used. Survivors who burn one of these Offerings will receive bonus Bloodpoints whenever an event Generator is powered, and Killers receive a bonus each time a Survivor is hooked on a special event Hook. If you don’t burn an Offering, you’ll still receive some bonus Bloodpoints, but not as many as those who do.

\n
\n

The event will also bring new challenges and rewards to Dead by Daylight. Putrid Serum will be a new currency for the event, which can be used to acquire cosmetics. Though there are a finite number of these items in the event, finding them all will net you "six hallowed cosmetics."

\n

Last year's event featured an adrenaline-filled rush to gather antitoxins to fend off an army of mutated creatures bent on destroying everything in sight, plus the slightly less tense inclusion of new items and gear.

Rainbow Six Siege Halloween Event

\n

Last year, Ubisoft treated us to the Mad House Halloween event in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege, and while the company's been silent so far about this year's Halloween event, a set of rather frightening looking skins was recently leaked.

\n

obutu3_ posted a video on YouTube showing off new skins for Doc, Ela, and Vigil, among others, all of which are pretty obviously meant for Halloween.

\n

If it's anything like last year, expect to see plenty of Halloween decorations around the Rainbow Six Siege world and, hopefully, see the previous year's skins available again as well.

Call of Duty Halloween 2019

\n

Just like we can count on a new Call of Duty game every year, we can count on a Call of Duty Halloween event, too. Only — Activision hasn't announced one yet.

\n

Last year's was all about Black Ops, and the year before focused on Infinite Warfare. This year saw Call of Duty Mobile finally launch, so it's possible any new event could center around that since Modern Warfare won't release until October 25. Of course, we could also see something in Black Ops 4 ...

\n

Either way, these usually involve the same thing: new skins, stickers, and gear, all won through reaching specific tier levels and completing certain missions.

\n

Stay tuned for more.

Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery Halloween Event

\n

Harry Potter and Halloween are perfect matches for each other, not least because something interesting — or deadly — always happens on Halloween.

\n

Hogwarts Mystery will be no different this year. The game's official Twitter account teased the game's Dark Arts Month earlier this month on Twitter.

We know what's going on with Wizards Unite, but we're still in the dark about Hogwarts

PUBG Halloween 2019

Rocket League Haunted Hallows

\n

Psyonix has revealed new information regarding Rocket League's Halloween 2019 event. This year, things get a little peculiar with the game's Stranger Things crossover during the Haunted Hallows event.

\n

The Farmstead map gets transformed into the Upside-Down, reminiscent of the opening portions from Stranger Things Season 2. The map is now steeped in red with the Mind Flayer lurking in the background.

\n

The event runs from October 14 to November 11. During that time, players can earn unique toppers, banners, titles, decals, avatar borders and more. These fiendish flourishes will be available for a certain number of Candy Corn, which players can earn by playing matches.

\n

There are even golden pumpkins that hold special surprises.

Apex Legends Fight or Fright

\n

Respawn Entertainment will be adding a bevy of Halloween goodies and tweaks to Apex Legends with the first ever Fight or Fright event, starting October 15 and running through until November 5.

\n

Fight or Fright introduces new cosmetic items for weapons and Legends, some of which can be obtained through completing special, limited-time challenge missions.

\n

Legends who fall in battle will be reborn as zombies and receive new abilities, like a vicious melee attack and, in true Titanfall fashion, the ability to run up walls.

\n

Once the field only has 10 living Legends left, the game changes to an escape mode. It's a race for the 10 Legends to make it to the evacuation ship while the undead zombie Legends do all they can to stop the evacuation from happening.

\n

You can head over here to check out the full details and get a glimpse at some of the skins.

Bloodborne: The Official Return to Yharnam

\n

Bloodborne's Halloween event is fully organized by the Bloodborne fan community. It's an unofficial official event (just go with it), and rules are determined on the Bloodborne sub-reddit based on which suggestions get the most upvotes.

\n

Currently, the rules include choosing and creating a specific costume, like the Grim Reaper or Masked Hoonter, and using the invasion and resonance bells as often as possible.

Rocket League players gather round. The WorldGaming Network (WGN) has announced its second annual championship, the Rocket League WGN North American Championship. With $20,000 in prizes available, interested players can build their team and gear up for the online qualifiers beginning June 29.

Teams of three players, ages 15 and up, can register now to participate.

Online qualifier tournaments will take place between June 29 and and July 21. The best of the online qualifiers will face off in the online playoffs on July 27.

The top seven teams from the playoffs will compete at the Grand Finals taking place at FAN EXPO Canada at the Metro Toronto Convention Center on August 24 and 25. An eighth team will be selected from an open qualifier taking place at FAN EXPO Canada August 23 and 24.

The winning team will take home half of the prize pool for themselves and the title of champions. That is not all, though. The winning team will also earn a spot in the DreamHack Pro Circuit Rocket League Montreal tournament taking place between September 6-8.

With a prize pool of $100,000 and only 32 available slots, winning at FAN EXPO Canada guarantees a spot among those 32 teams.

Sign-ups are now open for Belong Gaming Arena's Summer Arena Clash. Qualifiers started earlier this week.

Belong Gaming Arena's tri-annual tournament allows players to experience the world of eSports as casuals or pros. Added to the fray of competitive games for this summer's lineup are Rocket League and Mortal Kombat 11. Staple games still being featured are League of Legends, Overwatch, and FIFA 19.

Each of the games has its own qualifier dates, so check out Belong Gaming Arena's site for specific dates and times.

Taking place over several weeks, teams comprised of players from specific regions, known as tribes, will compete throughout the U.K.

Those interested can search for their local tribe to find like-minded teammates or other groups to join. Those who make it to the finals will play on stage in front of a live audience for the 2019 Championship Title. Not only that, hardware, peripherals, reward points, and merchandise are all on the line.

The competition culminates with the finals being played at Insomnia65, the U.K.'s biggest gaming festival. This year, Insomnia65 will be held during the August Bank Holiday at NEC Birmingham in Birmingham, England. With the U.K. Masters tournament, tabletop gaming, and cosplay masquerade, Insomnia65 has a little bit of everything for those in the gaming community.

For those that are interested in casting games, Belong Gaming Arena is looking for a color caster for League of Legends and Rocket League matches. Those looking to cast League of Legends should mark off Thursday's as their studio day and prepare to head to Insomnia65 to cast the finals live on stage. Hopeful Rocket League casters will be in the studio for the Rocket League Arena games.

Whether competing, casting, or enjoying the show, the inclusion of Mortal Kombat 11 and Rocket League brings new action to the Arena Clash.

As part of a partnership announced last month, ELEAGUE and Psyonix will host a special four-day Rocket League fan event at the NCAA Final Four Fan Fest in Minneapolis, the first-ever ELEAGUE x Rocket League Game Zone presented by AXE.

During the event, fans will be able to watch the top four collegiate Rocket League teams in an exhibition sponsored by Capital One at the Minneapolis Convention center. Those interested will also get a chance to play Rocket League in casual matches against fellow fans on game stations, including stations on a mobile ELEAGUE Arena competition stage.

The event will run over four days, beginning on April 5 and ending on April 8.  On April 7, beginning at 3 p.m. EDT, the matches between the top four winning teams from Psyonix's Collegiate Rocket League Spring Season will begin competing. These matches will be streamed across both Twitch and ELEAGUE.com

Following the event, on Friday, April 12, at 11 p.m. EDT, TBS will air highlights of the event.

This is not the first time ELEAGUE and Psyonix have worked together to televise Rocket League play. However, it will be the first traditional sports event at which a Rocket League competition has taken place.

Previously, the organizations teamed up to work together on the 2018 Rocket League ELEAGUE Cup, which took place on November 30 and, as with the upcoming event, was livestreamed on both Twitch and ELEAGUE.com.

With the addition of the upcoming event in Minneapolis, it seems as though this partnership has been beneficial to all involved and fans can expect to see more from it in the future.

ELEAGUE Signs Deal With Psyonix On Cross-Platform Rocket League Content https://www.gameskinny.com/3yliy/eleague-signs-deal-with-psyonix-on-cross-platform-rocket-league-content https://www.gameskinny.com/3yliy/eleague-signs-deal-with-psyonix-on-cross-platform-rocket-league-content Tue, 12 Feb 2019 10:16:44 -0500 QuintLyn

Today, ELEAGUE announced a deal with Rocket League developer Psyonix. The media company owned by Turner & IMG will be collaborating with the game company on a variety of content, including a live event designed as part of the NCAA Final Four Fan Fest.

For their part of the deal, ELEAGUE has agreed to create a wide range of content. This includes a series focusing on the Rocket League Championship Series that will air on TBS later this year.  It will feature the players and their teams, as well as include content from both Season 7 and Season 8 of the RLCS.  Fans will be able to relive the highs and lows of both seasons of the RLCS during the show.

Also included in the deal is an agreement for the Turner Sports ad sales team to have their advertisements featured during both Season 7 and 8 of the Championship Series.

Finally, the four top ranking teams will be featured in an exhibition competition to be held during the NCAA Final Four Fan Fest in Minneapolis this April. Details on the exhibition will be released at a later date.

In a press release issued earlier today Psynoix's VP of Publishing, Jeremy Dunham had this to say about the partnership:

“We’re excited to bring Rocket League Esports and the Rocket League Championship Series to new television and collegiate audiences. This is a significant step forward for our sport and ongoing relationship with our partners at ELEAGUE. We’re excited to see what the future will bring!”

Turner Sports Chief Content Officer, Craig Barry added that the partnership is unique in that it allows the companies to "create compelling experiences for fans and work collaboratively to identify new strategic business opportunities."

“We’re excited to partner with them as we build on the success of the previous ELEAGUE Cup: Rocket League events and launch new fan-friendly live experiences, including at this year’s Final Four in Minneapolis.”

This isn't the first time ELEAGUE has partnered with Psyonix. In fact the two companies worked together this past Novemer on the ELEAGUE Rocket League Cup. This is, however a much larger deal between the companies, and a pretty good sign that they intend to work together for a long time to come.

Killing Floor 2 -- Twisted Christmas: Season's Beatings

\n

Killing Floor has tons of new content for its players this season with Season’s Beatings.

\n

Play as killer Santa Clause as you slice through zeds and take on Krampus to reclaim your workshop on the new map Santa’s Workshop.

\n

You can also fight the crowds of Black Friday zeds in the new map Shopping Spree. On top of that, use an arsenal of new weapons which include Krampus Battle Axe, M32 Grenade Launcher, Fire Axe, and the Road Redeemer.

\n

Oh, and did we mention that the one and only Gary Busey voices Badass Santa? That alone is worth checking out.

Rocket League -- Frosty Fest

\n

No official announcements have been made regarding Rocket League’s Frosty Fest. However, last year’s event ran from December 11 to January 2, and it brought all sorts of antennas, toppers, wheels, rocket boosts, and decals.

\n

Playing various matches, including hockey, rewards players with snowflakes, used to obtain new holiday content.

\n

While we wait for the Frosty Fest to return, we can still look forward to the recent Rocket Pass 2 announcement, which will be available starting December 10. Buying a premium upgrade for this pass ($9.99) will include the new Artemis Battle-Car.

Fortnite -- Winter Royale: Season 7

\n

Winter Royale will officially dropped on December 6 and the seventh season has brought all sorts of holiday-themed themed content. Remember, however, this content comes at a price. You must purchase the battle pass for exclusive tier content, primarily skins.

\n

Some of these new skins include:

\n
    \n
  • Srg. Winter -- A ripped and battle worn version of santa
  • \n
  • Yetti -- A blue skinned monster with white fur and crossed eyes.
  • \n
  • Pajama -- A burger onesie complete with slippers and a googly eyed hood.
  • \n
  • Lynx -- A legendary sleek cat suit.
  • \n
  • The Ice King -- Another legendary skin of a cloaked man with glowing blue eyes and icy boots.
  • \n
\n

Once jumping from the bus with your new skin and gear, you’ll find the map coated in snow and ice to fit the season.

Destiny 2 -- Dawning

\n

Destiny 2’s Dawning event will be returning once again this year, but at a later time that it’s previous release.

\n

The official start date will be December 11, but no end date is currently in sight. You’ll find the farm and tower decorated, Dawning engrams, game modes, and quests.

\n

Though there are few announcements on what to anticipate in this year’s Dawning event, there may be returning game modes and content. Be sure you check into the Crucible once the event is released because the developers may bring back last year’s Mayhem PvP mode, which lowered cooldowns for intense and fast-paced matches.

\n

Another added feature were snowball fights. It is likely you will be able to pummel your friends and enemies with snowballs both inside and outside matches.

\n

New quests and milestones usually come with the winter updates, and though there are no official announcements on what they could entail (outside of confirmed powerful gear drops), rumors suggest it could be centered around Eva Levante.

\n

Rewards and engrams for the crucible, strike, and quests are bound to contain themed armor, weapons, shaders, and more.

Overwatch -- Winter Wonderland

\n

It’s round three for Overwatch’s Winter Wonderland event, so here’s what you should expect as far as game modes, skins, loot boxes, and environmental map changes.

\n

This update will be active December 11 to January 2, but for those of you who have added new game modes to your wish list, you may be disappointed.

\n

The Overwatch team has expressed that they will not be adding new game modes for events this year and will instead bring back recurring seasonal game modes while focusing on new heroes and balancing current ones.

\n

This means we will most likely be seeing “Mei’s Snowball Offensive” on Ecopoint: Antarctica and 2017’s “Yetti Hunter” on Nepal return to the arcade for the winter season.

\n

However, some of the maps will be adjusted to fit the holidays. The locations that will be festive and decorated with snow, lights, and trees this year include Blizzard World and King’s Row.

\n

Along with these game modes and environment changes, be prepared for new legendary and epic skins, one of which Overwatch has already announced as Zarya’s Snowboarder Legendary skin, equipped with furry bear hat and tail.

\n

This year’s previous Halloween Terror event brought with it nine new skins, so players can expect a similar turnout for 2018’s Winter Wonderland. Loot boxes are also bound to contain seasonally themed sprays, emotes, highlights, and voice lines.

Monster Hunter World -- Winter Star Fest

\n

Capcom is joining the festivities this year with their latest update for Monster Hunter: World, the Winter Star Fest. Log in each day between November 30 and December 17 for rewards, consumables, quests, costumes, emotes, and festivities.

\n

Celebrate the season at the The Celestial Pursuit, which is decked with cascading lights and ornaments. NPC characters also don winter wear to match the holiday spirit.

\n

Along with changes to the environment, you will find new gear for your hunter. Every day that you jump into the game, you will be gifted with Winter Star tickets. Gathering star tickets will allow you the craft the new Orion winter gear for your journey, along with adorable snowcat costumes for your paleco and sweaters for your pig, Poogie

If you missed special event quests throughout the year, you will now be able to seek them out again since the star fest is bringing back old and new quests for players. Be sure to keep up with the winter schedule here to avoid missing opportunities.

Sleigh bells ring in the distance. Gamer’s rage, but we won’t listen. It’s a beautiful site. We’re happy tonight. Season events are coming 'round again.

\n

December is here -- and you know what that means. Holiday events are back on our PC’s and consoles this month with new winter and Christmas updates. It’s time to dive back into those games we love and spend these cold days wrapped in a warm blanket with a steamy cup of coffee.

\n

Let's warm up, boot up, and level up.

20+ Great Online Co-op Games Currently on Steam for Less Than $30 https://www.gameskinny.com/trd74/20-great-online-co-op-games-currently-on-steam-for-less-than-30 https://www.gameskinny.com/trd74/20-great-online-co-op-games-currently-on-steam-for-less-than-30 Sat, 30 Jun 2018 19:32:38 -0400 Ashley Shankle

If your group of friends is anything like mine, getting them all to both agree to and pay for a particular game is harder than herding feral cats. Maybe you're in a similar situation or maybe you're just on the prowl for some good multiplayer games to play in Steam Remote Play. Whatever the case, we've compiled a sizable list to help you out.

The good thing about Remote Play is that only one player in the group needs to own the game; the rest can try it out for free — at least in its current beta period.

Let's choo choo on through, and hopefully, find you and your friend(s) a game you can play.

Terraria

Price: $9.99
Steam Store link

You'll see this game mentioned on just about every list of co-op games. This co-op sandbox-adventure has loads of content for any group of friends to go to town on. Terraria has stayed on the top played Steam games for 7 years for good reason.

Grim Dawn

Price: $24.99
Steam Store link

If you're looking to scratch your ARPG itch, you could do a lot worse than Grim Dawn. Even without the expansion, you can find dozens of hours of whackin' and lootin' in Grim Dawn. If you're not too keen on its darker aesthetic but do want an ARPG, the next option may be more down your alley.

Torchlight 2

Price: $19.99
Steam Store link

It may be older than Grim Dawn, but Torchlight 2 still has a lot of staying power if you've never given the game a chance. There is more content to be found in Grim Dawn but Torchlight 2 has a robust array of mods available, including content, quality of life, and classes. This is still a solid buy today in 2018, and it can be modded for up to 8-player multiplayer.

Castle Crashers

Price: $14.99
Steam Store link

Another staple co-op game sure to be on pretty much every co-op list, Castle Crashers is the poster boy for co-op beat'em ups. This is an easy one for all ages and kill levels to get into and have fun with.

BattleBlock Theater

Price: $14.99
Steam Store link

Another game from The Behemoth, the same studio behind Castle Crashers. BattleBlock Theater's campaign is completely co-op and it also features a healthy selection of hectic PvP modes, for when you want to prove your better than your friends once and for all.

Rocket League

Price: $19.99
Steam Store link

Before you say, "Ugh, no. Too mainstream," take a breath and consider Rocket League as a co-op game with a low barrier of entry and a whole lot of speed. Rocket League may not be your first choice, but it's an easy game to get a group of people to agree to hop onto for a quick round.

Risk of Rain

Price: $9.99
Steam Store link

Risk of Rain is a co-op game with an unquenchable bloodlust. Though not for everyone due to its extreme difficulty, Risk of Rain is an easy buy for roguelite fans or groups of friends who hate life. It's a hard game and it will knock you down a peg with ease, whether you've got 1 hour or 300 hours worth of gameplay logged.

Risk of Rain 2 is pretty good, too. It's currently $19.99 on Steam

Beat Hazard

Price: $9.99
Steam Store link

This one always seems to slip through the cracks since it's been blessing Steam with its presence for eight years now, but despite its age, Beat Hazard continues to be a recommended purchase for co-op play, providing you and your friend(s) are good at shmups. Beat Hazard lets you use your own music or one of many radio stations to generate enemies, which is what makes this one so unique.

Ultimate Chicken Horse

Price: $14.99
Steam Store link

Playing this game with a group of friends is an exercise in sadism. You and up to three other friends will be tasked with creating and completing the stages in Ultimate Chicken Horse, and you can bet at least one (or even all) of you will make them nearly impossible to beat, in the name of being the better platformer player. Ridiculously fun and honestly not as enraging as it sounds.

Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes

Price: $14.99
Steam Store link

An outlier among the other games in this collection, Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes only requires one person to buy the game. There's a reason for that: Only one player is allowed to see the screen at a time, so only one can directly defuse the bomb. The other players must tell the defuser what to do based on the instructions in the manual.

If it sounds a little convoluted, that's because it is by design. Can you and your friends defuse a bomb? Maybe, maybe not. But you can certainly yell at each other trying.

Don't Starve Together

Price: $14.99
Steam Store link

Don't Starve has stood as one of the more accessible survival games over the years, and the multiplayer expansion Don't Starve Together may be an even more enjoyable game than the base with the Reign of Giants expansion. Together contains both, plus the ability to die in the forest with your friends. If  as in my case — you tried the original game but didn't enjoy it much, you may still find this fun.

Left 4 Dead 2

Price: $9.99
Steam Store link

You may be dissuaded from picking Left 4 Dead 2 up based on its age. It's been out for 11 years now, it seems like everyone's been through the game. Why bother? If you haven't played it yet, this is your reminder to pick up L4D2 to play with your friends. It's still fun to this day, but it's best played with friends. Any community for a decade-old game is bound to be elitist and this game is no exception.

PAYDAY 2

Price: $9.99
Steam Store link

If you don't play PAYDAY 2, it's possible the only thing you've heard about it was the hubbub about microtransactions a few years back. It's been a long time since then though, and the game is a solid heister. You don't need to play the first game to dive right into this one and, provided your group can cooperate, there are hours upon hours of heists for you to tackle.

Dungeon of The Endless

Price: $11.99
Steam Store link

How about something a little different? Amplitude's Endless universe has expanded this way and that, with "that" being Dungeon of the Endless, a pseudo-tower defense roguelike. In this, players must hoard resources and expand based on the ever-increasing threats of the depth of the dungeon. A single round in this game can take several hours and it is very hard, but if your group's into roguelikes you could do a lot worse.

Borderlands 2

Price: $19.99
Steam Store link

Borderlands 2 is another old staple that still holds up today, especially multiplayer. Pushing through this game with friends is satisfying as firefights are intense and the weapon system is a ARPG-style lootfest. Not many games age as well as this one -- you can come back years later and still have a ton of fun.

Golf With Your Friends

Price: $7.99
Steam Store link

If you just want a game to pay a little attention to while chatting, this is an easy choice. Golf With Your Friends isn't exactly rolling in content variety and only contains 7 levels with 18 holes, but things are kept fresh through golf ball shapes and game modes. A very easy game to just sit back and play while having a couple beers and a laugh.

Human: Fall Flat

Price: $14.99
Steam Store link

How about something a little less-in-your-face about its silliness? We've got some pretty quirky games listed here, but they're all a bit more obvious about it than the cooperative physics-based puzzle solving found in Human: Fall Flat. The one downside here is that there are not a lot of stages, but it's a good deal at this price.

Project Zomboid

Price: $14.99
Steam Store link

Don't let this game's graphics and the year it entered Steam Early Access fool you: Project Zomboid is a fleshed-out survival sandbox with hundreds of potential hours of gameplay, with continued support from its developer as it slowly shambles toward full release. If you and your group can accept the high learning curve, you can have a great time with this game.

Portal 2

Price: $9.99
Steam Store link

The Portal games are famous for a lot of reasons and one of those reasons is (Spoilers!) the stellar co-op campaign. If you haven't played Portal 2 and you want a game to play with a friend, you may as well throw the $2 at Valve and see what all the hubbub is about.

Barony

Price: $14.99
Steam Store link

An other roguelike to add to the pile, Barony is the closest to a traditional roguelike of any of the games listed here. It looks old, it feels old, and it plays like an old game. That's perfectly fine: You'll be hard-pressed to find another game that takes the classic roguelike formula, turns it 3D and realtime, and allows for online co-op. This one's pretty niche but you're in for a good time if you're comfortable with classic roguelikes.

Endless Legend

Price: $29.99
Steam Store link

Though Endless Space is currently also on sale, I would recommend Endless Legend over it for its similarities to the Civilization series and its overall fun factor. This is a more traditional-style 4X game. Expand, form alliances, wage wars -- it's up to you. A worthy strategy addition to most gaming groups on a budget.

Resident Evil 5

Price: $19.99
Steam Store link

You don't hear much about Resident Evil 5 or 6 for a few reasons, but none of those reasons equate to them not being fun with friends. Resident Evil 5 is often overlooked in favor of 6 for co-op play because it retains the semi-tank controls found in its predecessor, but if you and a friend can adjust to that control style this is an intense and worthwhile co-op action game.

Resident Evil 6

Like its predecessor, Resident Evil 6 is best played with a friend. Unlike its predecessor, it's got more modern, fluid controls and a whole lot of QTEs. This one is over-the-top in about every regard, to the extent I can't help but find it silly each playthrough. If you like classic Resi games, go with 5. If you can't deal with the antiquated controls, go with 6. The decision is as simple as that.

7 Days to Die

Price: $24.99
Steam Store link

One of the first titles in the survival game wave that paved the way for games such as Rust and ARK: Survival Evolved, 7 Days to Die still stands as one of the most played games on Steam and is just as fun now as when it came out. As with the two mentioned, 7 Days to Die allows you a great deal of freedom in your efforts to survive. Break, use, and do whatever you want to ensure your survival in a world overrun by over 50 types of zombies.

Orcs Must Die! 2

Price: $14.99
Steam Store link

The original Orcs Must Die! set off a chain reaction of action-tower defense clones, some good and some bad, but none really hold up to the sequel. Orcs Must Die! 2 is an improvement over the first game in almost every way, and has the added bonus of online multiplayer. It's easy to get into, easy to wrap your head around, and easy to spend too many hours in.

Tabletop Simulator

Price: $19.99
Steam Store link

This is a bit of a strange one since Tabletop Simulator itself isn't a game, but a mini-platform for tabletop gaming. The amount of games available via Tabletop Simulator are nearly endless, making this a fantastic purchase for any static group of friends who have trouble deciding on what to play or want to play board games without having to pick up after themselves.

These are definitely not all of the co-op games you can get for relatively cheap on Steam, but these are some I can personally recommend. I hope you've found at least one game you find worthy of your Steam library.

Rocket League 1.42 Mini Update Adds More Superheroes and Minor Changes https://www.gameskinny.com/0lss9/rocket-league-142-mini-update-adds-more-superheroes-and-minor-changes https://www.gameskinny.com/0lss9/rocket-league-142-mini-update-adds-more-superheroes-and-minor-changes Mon, 05 Mar 2018 15:43:37 -0500 Andrew Krajewski

Rocket League has excelled at licensing other IPs and including them in their game. With the latest update, players can get even more DC superhero stuff for their cars.

Previously, players could buy a Batman-themed car and a few antennas. Rocket League update 1.42 brings two actual Batmobiles, the fan favorite '89 Batmobile and The Dark Knight Rises Batmobile. There are also a ton of other super hero customizables for different cars, including Cyborg, The Flash, and Green Lantern, among others.

The DC Super Heroes DLC is available now for $3.99

The 1.42 update also changes the appearance of the the Season 6 diamond level wheels. When first announced, the wheels were criticized for being too similar to the platinum wheels that were awarded. Psyonix heard its fans and responded with a visual change.

Death Squared

\n

Rounding out our list is Death Squared. The cheeky narration in this game is reminiscent of Portal and really adds to the atmosphere of this co-op puzzler. Grab a buddy and work together to get your cubes where they belong without killing each other with lasers, spikes, or other silly traps. The fun comes in the dumb mistakes you're bound to make learning how each level works. You can also grab two extra friends and head into four-player mode for four times the chaos.

SMITE

\n

Do you want to introduce your friend to League of Legends or DotA but that learning curve is just a little to steep for them? Then you should seriously consider giving SMITE a shot. The third-person camera and opportunity to automate your item and skill builds makes this the best MOBA for beginners to learn the genre. SMITE also features an arena mode which is shorter in length and lets you and your team focus on fighting other heroes rather than farming creeps. Also, it feels really cool to be a god like Thor or Athena ... just sayin'.

Snipperclips: Cut It Out, Together!

\n

Snipperclips is a must-play game if you own a Nintendo Switch. Hands down one of the most creative games to come out of 2017, this co-op puzzler exceeds expectations with its unique challenges. Kudos to the developers for imagining so many ways to make one mechanic feel fresh every single level. The game is simple to learn while keeping you and a friend thinking critically as you work together in this charming title.

Human: Fall Flat

This whimsical game feature ragdoll physics and open-ended platforming. Get a buddy or a few and hop into the world of Human: Fall Flat. Work together to figure out how you wanna climb that castle wall. Do you use that plank of wood lying on the ground for support, or do you build a human pyramid and try to get over that wall the most ridiculous way possible? Climbing ledges in this game is trickier than it first appears and can lead to some hilarious antics.

Rocket League

\n

Rocket League is a thrilling game of soccer with race cars, explosions, and delightful customization options! The best part about this game is it can appeal to players of all skill levels. You don't have to know how to make your car fly to get a rewarding rush of adrenaline from chasing after the ball and making solid contact. If you want to mix things up, you can even head into Snow Day or Rumble game types, where the puck or power-ups respectively make the game even easier for beginners. The game also features an upbeat soundtrack that really pumps you up to play!

Ultimate Chicken Horse

\n

Ultimate Chicken Horse starts simple, is easy to understand, and always offers something new. The goal is simple: work with your friends to create a platform level that you can beat but your friends can't. Each round introduces extra items for you to use against your friends, but be wary you don't accidentally screw up your chances of beating the level yourself or you'll be one sad chicken ... or horse ... or sheep (there's a bunch of cute animals to unlock!).

Jackbox Party Pack

\n

Often a dual-stick controller can be hard to wrap your head around if you’re new to gaming and don’t have that muscle memory. With Jackbox Party Pack that’s a non-issue since everybody uses their phones or tablets! These fun games also accommodate groups larger than four, so like their title implies, they're perfect for parties. For raucous laughs, I recommend Tee KO, where you and your friends design silly shirts and face-off to see which shirt is best, and Fakin' It!, where everybody answers question but one friend must fake their way through the answers. Both games are part of the third Jackbox Party Pack.

Overcooked

Grab your friends and become silly chefs in Overcooked! You and your friends must travel back in time to hone your cooking skills at various kitchens so you can protect the present-day world from the spaghetti monster! I'm a strong believer in the idea that there is a video game out there for everyone. Some people might not like the RPGs, first-person shooters, or sports games that find their way into the mainstream. It might take some time to find the right game, but if want to spend some time playing video games with your loved ones and are in a pinch for time, look at the nine games on this list to start your search.

Steam Reveals 2017's Biggest Moneymakers https://www.gameskinny.com/szkqv/steam-reveals-2017s-biggest-moneymakers https://www.gameskinny.com/szkqv/steam-reveals-2017s-biggest-moneymakers Tue, 02 Jan 2018 18:03:00 -0500 Lewis Parsons

Valve has come out with a list of the top 100 moneymakers on Steam for 2017, and while it includes a fair share of expected and consistently profitable titles such as The Witcher 3, GTA V, and Rocket League, there were a decent amount of surprises making the list.

The Top 12:

Valve arrived at this by taking into account game sales, DLC, and in-game transactions. While we know roughly where a game placed on the list, we don't know exact revenue numbers; nor where in each tier an individual game falls.

Valve also published a list of the most played games of 2017, which, not surprisingly, sees a lot of overlap with the biggest earners for the year.

Rocket League Guide: Secret Santa Crate and Snowflakes https://www.gameskinny.com/lt1r3/rocket-league-guide-secret-santa-crate-and-snowflakes https://www.gameskinny.com/lt1r3/rocket-league-guide-secret-santa-crate-and-snowflakes Thu, 21 Dec 2017 12:41:59 -0500 Sergey_3847

The Frosty Fest limited-time event for Rocket League is now two weeks away from its expiration date on January 3, 2018, so don't miss out on all the new Secret Santa crates and their amazing contents featured in this event.

Also, there is a new in-game currency being introduced -- the snowflakes. You will need 50 of these snowflakes to be able to purchase the new crate. If you want to know how get these fast, then keep on reading the guide below for all the info you need.

How to Get Snowflakes in Rocket League

As already mentioned, snowflakes are only available during this limited-time Christmas event in Rocket League. But they probably will be usable, although not obtainable, after the Frosty Fest event is over.

Any player can get snowflakes by simply playing in online matches. Usually, the number of snowflakes received by players after each matchup varies between 1 and 10. Sometimes you can get more than that, but that happens extremely rarely.

So what's the fastest way to get them? First of all, always play ranked matches, as these will reward you with more snowflakes than the unranked ones. Also, the most rewards have been reported in 1v1 and 3v3 matches. So try these out!

What's Inside the Secret Santa Crate?

Besides the snowflakes, you can also purchase Secret Santa crates using keys, decryptors, and, of course, real money. In any case, here is the list of items you can get from the Secret Santa crate:

  • Cold Front Decal (Mantis, Rare)
  • Christmas Tree Decal (Octane, Rare)
  • Holiday Deco Decal (Dominus, Rare)
  • Rad Reindeer Decal (Breakout, Rare)
  • Candy Cane Trail (All Cars, Very Rare)
  • Peppermint Wheels (All Cars, Very Rare)
  • Yuletide Rocket Boost (All Cars, Very Rare)
  • Winter's Warmth Player Banner (All Cars, Very Rare)
  • Winter Storm Rocket boost (All Cars, Import)
  • Christmas Wreath Wheels (All Cars, Import)
  • Happy Holidays Goal Explosion (All Cars, Import)
  • Wonderment Wheels (All Cars, Exotic)

Besides Secret Santa crates, snowflakes can be used to purchase special Frosty Fest rewards. However, the quantity of these purchasable items is limited. Here is a breakdown of how many items you can buy with snowflakes:

  • Happy Penguin: 1 (Cost: 25)
  • Fallen Tree: 1 (Cost: 25)
  • Angel Wings: 1 (Cost: 35)
  • Holiday Bow: 1 (Cost: 25)
  • Holiday Stocking: 1 (Cost: 15)
  • Peppermint: 1 (Cost: 15)
  • Snowboards: 1 (Cost: 25)
  • Polar Force: 1 (Cost: 25)
  • Cold Sweater: 1 (Cost: 50)
  • Cold Sweater: 1 (Cost: 40)
  • Decryptor Keys: 5 (Cost: 50)
  • Secret Santa Crates: 9999  (Cost: 50)

What's On Your (Game) Playlist for December? https://www.gameskinny.com/bj8f7/whats-on-your-game-playlist-for-december https://www.gameskinny.com/bj8f7/whats-on-your-game-playlist-for-december Mon, 11 Dec 2017 16:26:32 -0500 Josh Broadwell

Another month has gone by, bringing with it the chance to tackle that backlog or get stuck in something new. Between penning the content that keeps you occupied, the good folks behind GameSkinny have been busy with a wide variety of games this past month. Here's just a sampling of what we've all been up to.

El Conquistadork

Contributor and self-proclaimed geek enthusiast El Conquistadork has been sampling some of the most recent blockbuster releases. Why stop at just one, after all?

Assassin’s Creed Origins: I’m only a few hours into this one, but it’s succeeded in being the first AC game that hasn’t royally annoyed me to death. Part of that has to do with how much better the controls feel. The other part has to do with [Ubisoft] keeping the Abstergo crap to a minimum. I’ve always found modern day subplots in AC games to be boring, time-consuming, and completely superfluous. I’m also loving the protagonist. A surprisingly good entry so far: hopefully, it keeps up the pace.

Call of Duty: WWII: I’ve never been much of a CoD guy, but I will say that this one is pretty great. The campaign is fun, the multiplayer is engaging, and even the loot drops aren’t that distracting (compared to other loot boxes, that is).

Hand of Fate 2: I’ve only just begun this one, but damn, is it good. All the excellent combos of action, card playing, and choose-your-own-adventure gameplay, combined with a big graphics upgrade, and a much larger overworld.

Stephen Johnston

Stephen Johnston, site founder, is also mixing some well-known and niche games, with two in particular that are probably on a lot of people's lists.

  • Horizon: Zero Dawn expansion because HZD is the game of the decade.
  • Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance -- this game is basically my version of solitaire. I just play it to kill time.
  • Dungeons III -- A great little strategy game and dungeon builder, maybe a touch easy, but good humor and fun.
  • Super Mario Odyssey -- Because it's amazing. Easily top three Mario game.

Thomas_Wilde

Contributor and freelance writer Thomas Wilde is also balancing some old and new -- not always an easy task.

I'm constantly wrestling with my backlog, which goes back roughly 12 years and spans across 20 platforms. I managed to knock Oxenfree off my list on Halloween, which I liked; it's a short, genuinely creepy game that's a bit hamstrung by its characters never seeming to act like they're in as much danger as the narrative suggests.

Every so often, I still check in on World of Warcraft to chase achievements or run a mythic dungeon. I'm one of the people who's not really satisfied by the new expansion, Battle for Azeroth; I like the idea of warfronts and procedurally generated mini-dungeons in the form of uncharted islands, but Legion opened with both the Horde and Alliance being crippled by their losses at the Broken Shore. As per the current narrative, they just shouldn't have the resources for yet another hot war.

(Yes, I'm a lore nerd.)

The next thing I play is likely to be more horror. Right now, I'm eying ObScure, a title for the PS2 and Xbox, which is a self-conscious homage to '90s-style horror. I got almost to the end back in the day, but its sequel is really bleak and killed a lot of my momentum at the time.

Then again, I really ought to finally start The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Decisions, decisions.

Zach Hunt

Editor Zach Hunt is the newest edition to the GameSkinny team, and he, too, added Mario's latest outing to his catalog, along with some other big hits.

Most of my time is being spent collecting moons in Super Mario Odyssey (think I'm at 235 right now, so I have a lot of work to do). I'm not a completionist by any means, but any excuse to keep PLAYING in that world works just fine for me. I really love this game. Like, REALLY love it.

I downloaded Rocket League for my Switch recently, but I haven't had a chance to check it out yet. I was pretty terrible at it on PS4 and considered skipping this version, but the $20 price point and the mobility factor won me over. It'll be fun to get murdered on the go.

Aside from the Switch, I've been having fun with South Park Phone Destroyer and trying to get back into Starcraft 2 (since Blizzard kindly gifted WoL owners with Heart of the Swarm).

I'm going to try and be disciplined and not buy Skyrim (for the third time) when it hits the Switch, but somehow, I already know that I'll bite. BoTW really scratches that open-world exploration itch for me, but those bow and arrow motion controls look pretty sweet. And, you know, Link and the Master Sword. I mean, c'mon.

Ty Arthur

Featured contributor (and Destiny 2 guide guru) Ty Arthur has been indulging in some high fantasy goodness of late.

On the mobile side, I just got into Battleheart and feel like I was really missing out. It's got a fantasy style that will strongly appeal to RPG fans while taking the typical dumb, mobile timewaster elements and really using them to the game's advantage. The simple tap and drag mechanics are elegant, but still make you feel like you are actually playing something substantial. I haven't had this much fun with an Android game since Pocket Mortys, and it's not often I actually want to play a tablet game, instead of it being something you do when you need to pass some time and would prefer to not sit in silence doing nothing instead.

On the full game front, its been a whole lot of Shadow Of War for me lately. That first game in the series is still one of the Xbox One's best entries, so I was stoked beyond belief for the sequel. There are a few things I'm not crazy about (the much bigger world and areas leads to a lot of repetition, some of the wall pathfinding is awful when trying to climb, and I wasn't a fan of how the Balrog basically becomes Godzilla with a fire whip), but on the whole, this is a game you can lose yourself in for a stupid number of hours. I'll be conquering fortresses, riding drakes, and commanding orc armies for weeks to come before getting tired of the experience.

PurplePocketPirate

Community writer and RPG enthusiast Greyson Ditzler (aka PurplePocketPirate) added a bit of retro to his catalog recently, with one game, in particular, that might be rather familiar to some of you.

I've been playing a lot of different games lately, but I'm usually juggling a lot of them at once, so that's not all that different. I've been playing a lot of Battle Chef Brigade, and It's been a lot of fun. It gives you a lot more freedom to be creative than most cooking games, and the art is pretty nice, even if there isn't a lot of movement. I'm replaying it on Hard mode right now and making different story choices, so I can get the most out of it.

I also recently got a Sega Genesis, and that's been an interesting learning process. I bought it to play Rocket Knight Adventures -- which is Konami hard so far, but a lot of fun and really charming -- because it's never been ported, but looked like it would be right up my alley. Getting used to a button scheme with three primary buttons instead of two or four has been a surprising bump in the road for me, and I've had to adjust to the stiffness of the Genesis D-Pad, but other than that, I'm having a blast. Rocket Knight has a lot of surprises, a cute, bumbling protagonist, and boss fights every five minutes or so. Hard, but creative, and lots of fun. Also, it has a possum with a jet pack and a sword, so of course I had to try it at some point.

I've also been playing a lot of Streets of Rage 2 on my Genesis. I picked it up because I heard that it was one of the best beat-em-ups you can find, and so far, they're pretty right. Slick, pixelated graphics, tons of combos, and a wonderfully robust and bright '90's radical aesthetic. And the music. Oh sweet lord, the music. A lot of Genesis games can have flat out awful music, made of nothing but bubbling blips and chips with no direction, but this stuff is Grade A classic. The theme of the first level is so good I would seriously blast it out of my car's windows if I was driving downtown... You know, if I had a car. Yuzo Koshiro knows what's up. Check out the soundtrack if nothing else.

Super Mario Odyssey has been great, but there's not much point going in to that, since most people have heard about that already. Though I will admit that I've been playing it a lot when I've got a spare minute--just picking it up to collect a few moons before I leave for a class or whatever. Fantastic game; still not sure if it beats Galaxy for me, but it's damn good.

I also replayed VA-11 HALL-A recently on the Vita for the sake of my review on GameSkinny. Nothing much to say here I haven't said already. It's just a really pretty, compelling, well-presented visual novel with unique gameplay and a great cast of sci-fi and manga misfits, in a world of Bladerunner meets Cheers.

Lastly, during the Thanksgiving festivities I played a lot of Jackbox Party Pack 3 with my friends and family. I seriously think Jackbox might be the best names in Party games right now. They make cheap, easy to understand, fun and funny games that basically anyone can understand and play without a lot of complicated set-up. If you haven't played Quiplash 2 or T.K.O. with a full group of people at least once, then you haven't lived.

That's most of the interesting stuff I've been playing. The list will grow after Christmas, I can tell you that much.

Kat De Shields

Kat De Shields, our Journalism Training Program coordinator and communications manager, found some excellent mobile indies to keep her company during her holiday travels.

This past month, mainly due to travel, it's been all about games I can play on my phone or iPad.

Milkmaid of the Milky Way is a gorgeous, point-and-click adventure game set in western Norway in 1929. Ruth lives on a farm alone and makes butter and cheese from the milk her cows produce. When an alien ship abducts her beloved cows, it sparks the adventure she was waiting for. The soundtrack is lovely, and the game displays just how gorgeous pixel art can be.

Old Man's Journey is more of a story than a game with puzzle elements. If you're a sucker for atmosphere, this game has a lot of it, with wonderful artwork and a charming soundtrack. As an old man, you travel through the French countryside and stop at locations packed with memories to discover what sparked the spontaneous journey in the first place. It's bittersweet, in the best way possible, and is a lovely illustration of the love, loss, and hope we all experience as humans.

I'm also sinking more hours than I should into Game Dev Story (not to be confused with Game Dev Tycoon). It provides an entertaining glimpse into the world of game development, encompassing hiring/outsourcing work, how decisions are made as consoles are released, and how genre popularity and your fan-base changes.

Jonathan Moore

In between gear reviews, our Senior Editor Jonathan Moore has been playing quite a few games in different genres over the past month -- some new and some old.

As a self-proclaimed Star Wars nerd, it was inevitable that'd I'd be playing a lot of Battlefront 2. And over the last month, for better or worse, that's exactly what I've been doing. Sure, the game has a ton of things wrong with it and its MMR leaves a lot to be desired (that's not to mention the loot and progression system ... but I won't get into that cluster here). But at its core, BF2 is a fantastically fun game -- and that's what we're all here for anyway: fun. If you're not sure if you should pick it up yet, I'd say let the price come down a little and bite. The mechanics are solid, the story is great fun, and StarFighter Assault is hands down my favorite gameplay mode of any shooter this year -- to be melodramatic: it saves the game.

On top of that, I've been rummaging around the world of Fallout 4 quite a bit. I never played when it first came out -- it was one of those games in my backlog that just sat on a digital shelf for about a year. But man, am I glad I jumped in. The base-builiding aspect of F4 put its hooks in me and I can't stop scavenging to build walls, workshops, and turrets. I've put in around 42 hours so far and have barely scratched the surface of the story. Help -- I have a problem.

Stephen keeps saying I need to play Horizon: Zero Dawn (which I really do). But these two games are going to carry me well through December.

Rocket League Will Cost $19.99 on the Switch https://www.gameskinny.com/b1wmu/rocket-league-will-cost-1999-on-the-switch https://www.gameskinny.com/b1wmu/rocket-league-will-cost-1999-on-the-switch Sat, 04 Nov 2017 11:01:21 -0400 bazookajo94

Nintendo has announced that popular sports game Rocket League will be released for the Nintendo Switch on November 14th. Though Nintendo's announcement doesn't mention an amount, Rocket League's official website released an article on October 30th saying the game would be priced at "$19.99 USD or regional equivalent."

Rocket League, originally released in 2015 for Microsoft and PlayStation, has since expanded to most playable consoles with its rising popularity. Supposedly it's a sequel to Psyonix's 2008 sports-and-cars game Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars, though admittedly SARP Battle Cars was less popular than its successor, with Rocket League having over 150 awards and nominees under its belt for "Best of 2015" games.

With its ports now joining the Switch, Rocket League fans can expect the same content and features from the other consoles, along with the ability to join players online from Xbox One or PC. Exclusive to the Switch, however, are the "customization items" featuring popular Nintendo staples from Mario, Luigi, and Samus as vehicle accessories.

So get ready to get wrecking on Rocket League for the Switch this November 14th for $19.99.

Psyonix's hit game Rocket League will be coming to the Nintendo Switch on Nov. 14. The game will be available to download through the Nintendo eShop for $19.99 (or regional equivalent).

Players who download the Switch version of Rocket League will have access to two exclusive battle cars: the Mario/Luigi NSR and the Samus Gunship.

To access the cars, players must complete special in-game requirements. Both cars come in an orange team and blue team version. For the Mario car, it's a Mario theme for the orange team and a Luigi theme for the blue team. For the Samus car, the orange team aesthetic features Samus' traditional suit while the blue team version is Zero Suit inspired.

Rocket League on the Switch will have cross-platform compatibility with Xbox 360, Mac, Linux and Windows players will be able to have matches with other people on those platforms. Unfortunately, PlayStation is not included because Sony isn't allowing cross-platform play due to concerns about player safety on non-PlayStation platforms.

Besides the new cars, Rocket League will have all of the content, modes and features found in the other versions of the game. Look for it when it drops Nov. 14 on the Nintendo eShop.

Absolver: Halloween 1.08 Update

\n

Sloclap and Devolver Digital released Absolver's latest update recently, which includes new seasonal gear, among other updates and accessories.

\n

Your 1v1 Combat Trials matches can now take place at night, but more importantly for some players is the fact that all 6 Marked Ones are sporting Halloween masks--Halloween masks that can be dropped upon your victory. You can check them out in the trailer above.

\n

There are a couple of other important inclusions in the update. One of them is the Prestige system, which lets you advance your Absolver beyond level 60 and provides additional subsystems to help you grow them even further. Each level gained nets you a Crystal, which you can use to reset attribute points.

\n

The random loot drops from Combat Trials have been replaced with Rift Disks and Rift Coins, items that can be traded for rare gear. You also can acquire Rift Disks by trading in Crystals.

\n

There's a new, more intuitive inventory management system included in the update too. And the other major addition? You can now be bald.

Hearthstone: Hallow's End

\n

It wouldn't be Halloween without Hearthstone! The Hallow's End event is back, and the Headless Horseman is your master of ceremonies. He's taken control of the tavern, which you'll find has been remade to match the seasonal mood, but there's more to the event than just that. Once each week during the Halloween spectacular, the Headlass Horseman will be handing out card packs and an Arena ticket.

\n
    \n
  • Log in before October 30 at 10:00 pm PDT to receive two Whispers of the Gods packs and an Arena ticket.
  • \n
  • Log in between October 31 at 12:01 am PDT and November 5 at 10:00pm PDT to recieve two Knights of the Frozen Throne packs and an arena ticket.
  • \n
\n
Arena Matches
\n

There's a brand new dual-class Arena match for the duration of Hallow's End too. Each Hero is wearing a special Halloween costume; you'll choose both a Hero and a Hero Power and then receive cards from both classes, alongside your neutral cards.

\n
Tricky Tavern Brawl--Now Through Oct. 28
\n

Don a costume and travel throughout the countryside to find the Headless Horseman and put an end to his tricksy deeds. What costume you'll wear is Discovered once the Brawl begins, and each costume has its own deck featuring cards from across the classes, plus a passive Hero Power.

Hexsylvania is full of creepy catacombs and long hallways lit only by the dim light of floating candles and is covered with dense fog that obscures your path. There are plenty of other good things in store, too:

Fortnite Patch 1.8

\n

All of this is part of the much larger Fortnite update out now, and here are the details about it.

\n
Leaderboards
\n

The patch implements different types of rankings to help you see how you stack up to the competition in these categories:

\n
    \n
  • Total wins
  • \n
  • Solo
  • \n
  • Dual
  • \n
  • Squad
  • \n
\n

There are two types of leaderboards too, and they all automatically reset on Wednesday of each week.

\n

Division Leaderboard

\n

These are based on different groups, or divisions, of players.

\n
    \n
  • Each division is made up of 50 players competing against each other.
  • \n
  • Players are automatically assigned to new divisions each week.
  • \n
  • Each match type gets its own division.
  • \n
\n

Friend Leaderboard

\n
    \n
  • Compare and compete with your friends by turning on "friends only" on the board settings.
  • \n
\n
Team Chat
\n

PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players who own a microphone now have the option for team chat in their games, and it's a default setting. PC players have voice options too--added in the last update--but they need to push talk to activate it, and it's bound to the Y key. Chat isn't mandatory, though, and can be deactivated in the  Audio Options menu.

\n
Slurp Juice
\n

This consumable item is a major new piece added in the update. It grants the user one health and one shield per 25 seconds and can restore your health all the way up to 100. You'll find them in the same areas where you find other consumables, and you can also stack up to 2 of them.

\n

\n
Season Levels
\n

These seasonal perks are a way to help level up your character and get exclusive items into the bargain. The first level gives you the ability to raise your character to 100 and displays your level in your banner. It also adds banner flair from levels 2-49 so you can display your prowess for all to see.

\n

There are two seasonal awards for progressing through the first season as well.

\n
    \n
  • Level 10: Unique seasonal banner
  • \n
  • Level 25: Unique seasonal glider
  • \n
\n

Daily challenges are the way you raise your seasonal experience points, with a new one provided every day and the ability to have up to 3 active at one time.

Clash of Clans: Halloween 2017

\n

Fans of Clash of Clans won't be surprised to hear that Supercell appears to be gearing up for yet another seasonal event. Details aren't confirmed as of yet, but here's what seems to be in store.

\n
Troops
\n

Supercell is introducing two new troop types: Pumpkin Barbarian and Giant Skeleton Troop. The Pumpkin Barbarian is a regular Barbarian dressed up as a pumpkin and with an extra shield -- a pumpkin shield, of course. Don't let the images you might have seen fool you either. The Pumpkin Barbarian doesn't have low HP; that's just for the shield.

\n

\n

The Giant Skeleton has its own unique characteristics that actually encourage you to let it get defeated. It carries around a giant explosive that goes off when it dies. It can even destroy structures like spell factories.

\n
Obstacle
\n

This year's Halloween obstacle is a baby dragon skull. Like other obstacles before it, it costs 25k elixir to remove and gives you 75k in return.

\n

We'll post more as it becomes available, so check back soon!

Pokemon GO: Halloween 2017

\n

Niantic finally announced what dataminers already discovered: Halloween introduces Generation III Pokemon from Ruby and Sapphire! The event runs from October 20th at 12pm PST to November 2 at 1pm PST.

\n

As in previous years, there will be higher chances of finding the returning spooky Pokemon, including Houndoom and Gengar, but you'll also get to catch Gen III's Ghost types as well--Duskull and Dusclops, Shuppet and Banette, and Sableye. And, starting in December, Niantic will be slowly rolling out additional Hoenn Pokemon, though which ones and when specifically have not yet been stated. However, you'll also want to be on the lookout for the special witch-hat-wearing-Pikachu seen in the trailer.

\n

Special boxes are on sale too, with items including Raid passes, Super Incubators, and, of course, candy. Pokemon will be earning twice as much candy as normal during the event too. There's also a Gen VII surprise in store, in the form of a Mimikyu hat you can get for your avatar.

Guild Wars 2: Shadow of the Mad King

\n

The Mad King returns in Guild Wars 2 for yet more Halloween mayhem! The event brings with it numerous spooky diversions for your gaming pleasure, from battles to puzzles and more besides!

\n

The Mad King's Labyrinth

\n

Find your way through the maze, knocking on doors to trick-or-treat, if you have the courage for it. Watch your back, though; monsters prowl the maze, looking for an easy meal. If this all gets too much for you, there's always the Lunatic Inquisition you can try instead, the event's PvP mode

\n

Ascent to Madness

\n

Face off against the Mad King himself--Oswald Thorn. Study his tactics carefully if you want a chance for survival. But be careful--you never can tell what a madman might do next.

\n

The Mad King's Clock Tower

\n

Race your way to the top of the crumbling, haunted clock tower. Mind your step as you go, because one wrong move sends you tumbling into the rising tide of horrors below.

\n

Lion's Arch Festivities and More

\n

Drink in the Halloween atmosphere at the creepily bedecked Lion's Arch, and you might even have Oswald Thorn himself drop in for a game of Mad King Says. But of course, it wouldn't be Halloween without treats, and there are plenty to go around, including Halloween skins, weapons, and armor.

Rocket League: Haunted Hallows Event

\n

Rocket League''s first ever Halloween event is here! It runs until November 6th at 10am PST, and it introduces a brand new form of currency for a limited time: Candy Corn.  You'll be using this throughout the event, so here's a short guide to help get you started.

\n
What is It?
\n

Candy Corn is your spendable reward that you use to purchase Haunted Hallows Crates, alongside Decryptors and other Halloween items. You receive Candy Corn as a reward for completing an online match, so it's a simple and intuitive system.

\n

Your Candy Corn will disappear one week after the event ends, but everything you purchase with it remains in your inventory, including crates. To spend your candy, click the Special Events button on the main menu, and go from there.

\n

\n
What Can I Get with It?
\n

The Haunted Hallows Crates are your the main draw for spending your Candy Corn, and they contain a variety of items for your Halloween enjoyment. These items are separate from the ones you can purchase in the event store as well.

\n

However, you can also purchase Decryptors with Candy Corn, Decryptors are a new way of unlocking crates in Rocket League and, for now, can only be purchased with Candy Corn. Be sure to note that crates unlocked with Decryptors cannot be traded.

\n
Anything Else I Should Know?
\n

There are two other ways of obtaining Haunted Hallows crates. One is through regular online play; there's a chance a crate will drop at the end of each match. The other is through purchasing them directly, with real-world money. However, like crates unlocked through Decryptors, Haunted Hallows crates bought with money cannot be traded. The crates won't be updated for next year either, which means you can wait an entire year to open them, if you so choose.

Trailer Park Boys: Greasy Money Zombie Outbreak

\n

What happens when zombies and killer zombie raykins invade your neighborhood? Well if you want to know, check out the Trailer Park Boys Halloween event, running until October 20th!

\n

Take down the zombie horde before they become out of control, and seek out the source of the creeping plague by taking on the evil raykins. Depending on your performance, you may just unlock a raykin for your wrestling arena too, which boosts profits for your ring.

Minecraft: Spooktacular Server Events

\n

Sandbox fans aren't left out of the Halloween fun either! Mojang's server partners are running several different Halloween events from Friday 13th (quite appropriately) until October 31st. From trick-or-treating to fleeing from zombies, there's plenty to keep you in the Halloween spirit.

\n
Lifeboat
\n

The lobby received a Halloween makeover, featuring pumpkins, glowing green goo, and spiders, but there's more lurking in the dark than the eye can see right away.

\n

You'll need to keep an eye out for a tiny skeleton wandering around the lobby, and if you catch him, you receive a cave spider zombie jockey as a pet to accompany you until Halloween. But beware: the hunter can easily become the hunted. Zombies prowl the lobby, looking for their next snack. However, you can always take a break and enjoy the Haunted House parkour course too--if you dare.

\n
InPvP
\n

There are changes afoot in the lobby here too. The entire lobby has taken on an eerie Halloween-themed neighborhood look, complete with spooky skins for your characters. Get your skin from the Jack-o-Lantern by the spawn point, then head over to the house for your treat--but be prepared for tricks too. You can also bring along one of the limited time DLC pets, including blaze, wolf, or mooshroom, among others.

\n

On top of that, you can play the Halloween themed SkyWars map, where every island is a grave, and you have to keep on your toes to ensure it isn't yours.

\n
Mineplex
\n

The Mineplex event is all about rewards. The Pumpkin King has arrived, and he brings with him an assortment of quests, each with their own rewards, on a three hour basis. There are also flaming pumpkins that will randomly appear in games, each offering prizes to those who smash them, from gems and keys, to Top Rank.

\n

This one has its own limited time DLC too, in the form of trick-or-treat boxes you can gift to your friends (or hoard for yourself). They contain lobby effects, potions, costumes, and food.

Black Desert Online: Halloween in Wonderland

\n

Kakao Games and Pearl Abyss are bringing a unique new crossover and aesthetic to Black Desert Online starting October 18. As the above trailer shows, it centers around mysterious wormholes linking Wonderland to the world of Black Desert -- and, of course, the White Rabbit plays an important role. But so do you: you're enlisted by the White Witch to assassinate the Black Witch.

\n

Other Halloween additions include spooky makeovers for central hubs like Velia and Heidel, and there will also be special Alice in Wonderland- themed areas and props, like the Mad Hatter's Tea Party.

\n

Of course, it wouldn't be Halloween without costumes, and there'll be plenty of those. The Angelic and Demonic Queen outfits are two notable inclusions, and you can also dress your horse up with the Skeletal Horse Set. Throughout the event, you can wear Scarecrow Masks and Halloween pets Neurotic Cabby and Witch Hat Charlotte make their return this year too.

\n

More information is set to come next week when the event starts, so be sure to check back!

Paladins: All Hallows Evie

\n

Paladins: Champions of the Realm's treat bucket is full to bursting with the All Hallows Evie patch. There's something for everyone in the Little Box of Horrors chest, from exclusive VIP content and items to new skins for your favorite characters, making this Halloween 2017 event full of scares and delights.

\n

\n
All Hallows Evie Skins
\n

Hi-Rez has included a number of well-designed skins for this Halloween 2017 event, including --finally!-- the tantalizing PumpKing.

Strix's outfit is tied to the new "Give 'em a Scare" Harrowing Horror quest (more on that later) and once you unlock his, you can get Ma'Damba's as well.

\n
VIP Content
\n

This content is exclusive for VIP members and includes the Bruce Buffer announcer and a special dance for Pip. However, you'll also get the Nightmare Mount, a horse with ram's horns --of course-- and green glowing hooves.

\n

\n

The Little Boxes of Horror could contain a number of other things, including costume pieces for your heroes or, for some, weapons.

\n
All Hallows Evie Quests
\n

The Halloween patch also brings three new Harrowing Horror Quest lines with it:

\n

A Night's Haunting

\n
    \n
  • Heal for 200,000 health
  • \n
  • This unlocks the next quest, Toil and Trouble, and a spray for Wickerman
  • \n
\n

\n
    \n
  • Win 10 Games

SMITE: Departure to the Afterlife

\n

Hi-Rez Studios is offering a Halloween 2017 event for SMITE players, too. It comes in the form of its Departure to the Afterlife event, which is part of the latest SMITE patch, 4.19. It includes plenty of features to help infuse your game with some frightful fun.

\n

\n
SMITE Halloween Skins
\n

There are six new skins in the Departure to the Afterlife event to help put you in the Halloween mood. And of course, they're all appropriately afterlife themed:

\n
    \n
  • Grim Reaper Thanatos
  • \n
  • Trick or Treat Cupid
  • \n
  • Warchief Raijin (Odyssey)
  • \n
  • Hachiman Mastery
  • \n
  • Yurei Susano (Odyssey)
  • \n
  • Mummified Izanami (Odyssey)
  • \n
\n

\n
Other Departure to the Afterlife Treats
\n

In addition to the new God skins, the Halloween map makes a return appearance, alongside the Scary Potion. You'll also get some new Halloween chest items, including the Cupid and Thanatos skins mentioned earlier, a  Jack-o'-Lantern Jump Stamp, and the Spooky Music Theme.

\n

The patch itself includes the return of foul-mouthed announcer Tactless Tina, which may or may not count as frightening, depending on your viewpoint -- and your playstyle.

Overwatch Halloween Terror 2017

\n

Overwatch's Halloween Terror event is back! And the best part is that there's even more to it this year, from new skins and new items to Halloween-themed arenas and a brand new game mode. You've got a good while to enjoy this hero-shooter event, too: it runs from now through November 1.

\n
PvE Brawls
\n

Dr. Junkenstein makes his return in Junkenstein's Revenge, and Blizzard added an endless mode for it -- appropriately named "Endless Night"-- to really test your skills as you battle endless waves of enemies fighting to gain entrance into the castle. You can also choose from four additional characters for this mode: Genji, Torbjorn, Zenyatta, and Widowmaker. Alongside that is a brand new leaderboard to record the highest scores and see who made it the farthest.

\n

\n
New Skins
\n

In addition to the skins from last year's event, there are eight new skins for the 2017 Overwatch Halloween event:

\n
    \n
  • Dragon Symmetra
  • \n
  • Van Helsing McCree
  • \n
  • Jiangshi Mei
  • \n
  • Corsair Ana
  • \n
  • Cultist Zenyatta
  • \n
  • Totally '80s Zarya
  • \n
  • Viking Torbjorn
  • \n
  • Vampire Reaper
  • \n
\n

\n
Spooky Arenas
\n

Two maps have received a Halloween makeover as well. During the event, you can play in spooky versions of the Hollywood and Eichenwalde maps.

\n

\n
Loot Boxes
\n

In true Trick-or-Treat style, there are also Halloween themed loot boxes for you to purchase. These loot boxes contain a wide variety of things, from new skins and voice lines to avatars, emotes, and even last year's items -- some of which you might have missed.

The events themselves include a multitude of different updates and skins as well, including additional game modes, accessories, and item skins.

\n

To date, there are only a handful of games whose 2017 Halloween events have started or been revealed so far, so this piece will be updated as we continue to get more information about what's to come. For now, check out what's currently on offer to help get you in a spooky frame of mind.

Rocket League Guide: Accelerator Crate and Decryptor Keys https://www.gameskinny.com/54l81/rocket-league-guide-accelerator-crate-and-decryptor-keys https://www.gameskinny.com/54l81/rocket-league-guide-accelerator-crate-and-decryptor-keys Tue, 19 Sep 2017 13:20:40 -0400 Sergey_3847

The Autumn update for Rocket League will be released on September 28, and it's packed with tons of new content -- including a new battle-car, new maps, a battle arena, and something extra on top in the form of events.

This update will also be bringing new Accelerator crates that are stuffed with exotic items. These crates can only be opened with special Decryptor keys that you can acquire by completing certain in-game objectives. In this Rocket League guide, we'll go over how to get these Decryptors and what you'll be able to loot from the Accelerator crates that they open.

How to Get Decryptors in Rocket League

Decryptors are a new type of key that can be used to unlock any type of crate in Rocket League. Unlike similar keys in past updates, these can be earned by taking part in the limited-time events that should drop some time after the patch goes online. That means there's no need to buy your keys anymore -- Decryptors are basically free keys if you just play the game.

Because this is the case, keep in mind that you will not be able to trade items from the crates unlocked with the help of Decryptors anymore, as that would contradict the goal of Rocket League's markets. Not only will the items be untradeable, but the keys themselves will be untradeable as well.

Still, it's a very good deal that will let you earn up to three free Decryptors at every event, which may unlock some cool new items from the Accelerator crates.

What's In the Accelerator Crates in Rocket League?

If you manage to get at least one Decryptor key during an online event, you will have the chance to unlock a brand new Accelerator crate. Doing so gives you a chance at obtaining one of the six new items, including a fantastic new battle-car.

Here's the complete list of items included in the Accelerator crate:

  • Pearlescent paint finish (Rare)
  • Hot Rocks trail (Very Rare)
  • Power-shot boost (Import)
  • Chrono wheels (Exotic)
  • Popcorn goal explosion (Black Market)
  • Jäger 619 RS (Battle-car)

The new battle-car is clearly inspired by Porsche models GT3 and GT4 -- a favorite of many racing fans that is hinted at in the car's official game slogan:

"Jäger 619 RS is a Battle-Car that draws inspiration from European racers and speedways."

That's all the info we've got on the Decryptors and Acelerator crates from the Autumn update! All that's left to do now is to prepare well for the next ranked season with the help of our other Rocket League guides here on GameSkinny:
