Cyberpunk 2077 Endings Explained: How to Get Each Ending and Their Rewards

In our Cyberpunk 2077 endings guide, we break down each ending and how to unlock them, including the best endings and the secret ending.

There are several Cyberpunk 2077 endings you can unlock depending on key choices you make during the game — and especially choices that you make near the end. It naturally begs the question: "how do I unlock all of Cyberpunk 2077’s endings and get their rewards?"

Fortunately, we have the answer! While we’ll avoid going into heavy spoiler territory with our Cyberpunk 2077 endings guide, a few spoilers are inevitable, so tread carefully below.

Cyberpunk 2077 Endings Explained

The life path you choose in Cyberpunk 2077 has no bearing on your ending. Each ending starts with the mission Nocturne Op55N1, and you’ll know you’re beginning it because the game lets you know it’s the point of no return.

Cyberpunk 2077’s endings are unique in that, with the exception of one “secret” ending route, you can actually go back and experience more than one. Completing one ending sends you back to before the point of no return so, assuming you played your cards right with Johnny, you can potentially see every ending without restarting the entire game.

Cyberpunk 2077 Bad Ending

The Cyberpunk 2077 bad ending is straightforward and completely avoidable. After Nocturne Op55N1 starts, and you choose to speak with Johnny Silverhand on the balcony, choose:

  • Could just put all this to rest.
  • [Toss the pills away] I know exactly what we’re going to do.

The ending solves nothing and helps no one, so we don’t recommend doing it. You know it's the bad ending because you don't even get a trophy or achievement or any rewards.

Where Is My Mind? The Okay Ending

Where Is My Mind is Cyberpunk 2077’s second bad ending — or bad-ish might be more appropriate because it does offer some closure. It’s meant for those who didn’t develop good relationships with Panam, Rogue, Johnny, or basically anyone else.

The primary requirement for this one is saving Takemura in the Search and Destroy mission. Then once Nocturne Op55N1 starts, go out on the balcony with Johnny, and choose:

  • Think trusting Arasaka’s risky, but worth it.
  • [Take Omega Blockers]

You’ll get three additional missions to complete then, where V rescues Hanako Arasaka, invades Arasaka Tower with her, and brings V’s fractious relationship with Johnny to a middling end. This ending does not let you spend additional time back in Night City, unlike other, better endings.

Rewards

The Johnny-centric ending gets you some Johnny-themed items:

  • Johnny's tank top
  • Johnny's aviators

All Along the Watchtower: Cyberpunk 2077 Good Ending (1)

One of Cyberpunk 2077’s best endings is All Along the Watchtower. It’s also currently the most difficult to obtain, but not because of gameplay.

Players are reporting that during a key moment in the ending, the game tells V they are out of bounds and makes them explode. Presumably, this rather serious bug will get patched out once CD Projekt Red issues its next patches in the coming month.

For now, if you want to try for the best ending, this is the one and might be one of the canonical endings, depending on what Cyberpunk 2077 DLC we get. 

Here’s what you’ll do.

You’ll need to complete all of Panam’s quests first. Then once Nocturne Op55N1 starts, choose the following:

  • Call Panam.
  • Just need a minute.
  • Somethin’... I gotta do today.
  • Gonna ask Panam for help.
  • [Take Omega Blockers]

This kicks off a new chain of events. You’ll complete these quests next with Panam and the Aldecaldos:

  • We Gotta Live Together
  • Forward to Death
  • Belly of the Beast

During Belly of the Beast, you need to defeat Adam Smasher and interact with Alt. Here’s where the ending actually splits.

To get All Along the Watchtower, you must choose “Wanna live out whatever life I got left. This boots Johnny out and sends V off with Panam and the Aldecaldos to find a cure. We’ll get to the other branch in a bit.

Rewards:

The Panam ending rewards net you just one item:

  • Aldecaldos Rally Bolero Jacket

Path of Glory: Cyberpunk 2077 Good Ending (2)

Cyberpunk 2077’s second good ending is Path of Glory. For this route, you need to complete all of Rogue’s quests and have a good relationship with Johnny Silverhand.

Once Nocturne Op55N1 starts, choose these when speaking to Johnny on the balcony:

  • Think you and Rogue should go.
  • [Take Omega Blockers]

Johnny takes over V for now and works alongside Rogue in the upcoming missions:

  • For Whom the Bell Tolls
  • Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door

Like All Along the Watchtower, you need to defeat Adam Smasher during the last mission and interact with Alt. You must choose to enter the Well and return to life to unlock Path of Glory.

In this ending, V takes over from Rogue as head of Afterlife and becomes Night City’s legendary merc.

Rewards

Strangely, the Path of Glory ending has no rewards.

New Dawn Fades: Cyberpunk 2077 Alternate Ending

New Dawn Fades is a radically different ending that splits off both All Along the Watchtower and Path of Glory. In both, you need to get to where you’ve interacted with Alt and have the choice to go through the Well or let Johnny take over.

Let Johnny take over because it’s his body, and you get to go back to Night City to clear up a few missions. The construct known as V ends up merged with Mikoshi, while Johnny takes V’s body off on a new adventure. It’s a different kind of resolution, though there’s no telling if it’s canonical yet.

Rewards:

The alternate ending gets you two rewards:

  • Aldecaldos Rally Bolero Jacket
  • Liberty PRIDE

(Don’t Fear) The Reaper: Cyberpunk 2077 Secret Ending

Cyberpunk 2077’s secret ending is (Don’t Fear) The Reaper. At least, we think it is. There might be more secret endings, but this is the one we know about for sure right now. It’s the toughest and probably most rewarding path, though it’s a case of the journey being the reward.

The most important requirement is you need to be good buds with Johnny, with a friendship rating of 70% or higher.

Choose kind answers, or at least not jerk ones, when you can interact with him during the story, and don’t opt for flattery because he won’t like it.

Based on what we know about this route, you’ll also need to complete these missions:

  • Holdin’ On
  • Like A Supreme
  • Chippin’ In
  • Blisterin’ Love

During Chippin’ In, you’ll visit Johnny’s grave and need to pick the following answers:

  • The guy who saved my life.
  • Nah, f**ked that up too.
  • What do you want from me?
  • As far as second chances go, this is your last.
  • You were a real dick in the beginning.
  • When you said you let down your friends…
  • Smasher biz really got into her.
  • Yeah. I’ll call Rogue.

It’s possible some of these steps aren’t necessary, but most players are saying this is the only surefire way to unlock the Reaper quest during Nocturne Op55N1.

So, once Nocturne Op55N1, head out onto the balcony as usual with Johnny. This time, do nothing. When the prompts come up to choose an action that would lead to a different ending, do nothing at all.

After five minutes of inaction, Johnny finally pipes up and offers to deal with the mission on his own.

Finish hearing his plan, and pick “Arasaka Tower.” This unlocks the (Don’t Fear) The Reaper quest.

Johnny takes V over again and raids Arasaka Tower entirely alone. It’s not a case of die and try again either. Die in this quest, and you’re kicked out of it, forced to choose another route. Because of that, it’s best to run it on a separate save file so you can try again if you want.

At the end, you’re given the chance to do either New Dawn Fades or Path of Glory.
