The Moonveil Katana is a guaranteed drop from the Magma Wyrm boss inside the Gael Tunnel dungeon in Caelid. Thankfully, you don’t have to go far into that hellworld. Neither must you go anywhere close to Scarlet Rot.

Easiest Way to Get the Moonveil Katana

The easiest way to get to Gael Tunnel is from the Rotview Balcony Site of Grace, which is just east of the border between Limgrave and Caelid. From the Site of Grace, jump to the ground below and head south. Keep the cliffside on your right. About halfway toward the keep in the distance, Fort Gael, you encounter a small encampment of soldiers. Defeat them and keep right, staying against the cliffs. Gael Tunnel is on your right, just before you reach the edge of the world overlooking the bay.

Once inside Gael Tunnel, keep left. Jump down the ledges leading into its depths. Rest at the Site of Grace at the bottom of the shaft, then proceed inside. Keep left to stay on the path to the Moonveil Katana. Drop down any ledges you encounter.

You eventually reach a small room with a large set of wooden double doors on your right. The Magma Wyrm is just beyond the doors, but don’t go through them yet. Instead, head across the small chamber and open the door at the other side, grabbing the Site of Grace just beyond the door.

Next, defeat the Magma Wyrm to receive your Moonveil Katana. You need 12 Strength, 18 Dexterity, and a healthy 23 Intelligence to use the katana to its full potential. Without the right stats, Transient Moonlight won’t activate; the Moonveil takes more stamina to swing and deals significantly reduced damage.

Alongside the Moonveil Katana, the Magma Wyrm in Gael Tunnel drops 7,500 Runes and a Dragon Heart, which can be exchanged for powerful Arcane incantations at the Cathedral of Dragon Communion.

Moonveil Katana Passives & Abilities, Listed

The Moonveil Katana comes with a base blood loss buildup of 50. Like the Uchigatana, this effect builds over time, exploding enemies in a mass of blood doing high damage when the hidden meter fills. Each enemy has different bleed resistances, and some enemies, like the Erdtree Avatars, don’t bleed at all.

Moonveil’s Ash of War,Transient Moonlight, sheathes your blade and lets you pull off two devastating attacks. One is a light attack using the right bumper or R1 to trigger a horizontal slash. this slash creates a short-range arc of blue magical energy that deals good damage. Heavy attacks with the right trigger or R2 perform a downward slash. This creates a longer-range beam that deals a huge amount of stagger damage on top of health damage.
