How to Get Piercing Claw in Monster Hunter World

There are only a handful of weapons and armors that require Piercing Claw in MHW. They’re spread sporadically through the weapon crafting tree, and the most popular armor that uses Piercing Claw is the Death Stench Brain Alpha headpiece, since it has one level of the Critical Eye skill.

It’s worth mentioning that Piercing Claw is the middle tier of the Claw material, with the three being:

  • Sharp Claw (Low Rank)
  • Piercing Claw (High Rank)
  • Tough Claw (Master Rank)

All three can be carved from different large monsters, but the easiest way to get them all is to hunt down the same small monsters at their respective ranks.

Monsters You Can Carve Piercing Claw From

There are two small wyverns you can get MHW Piercing Claw from, and those are Jagras and Shamos. Because the run from Ancient Forest starting camp to where the Jagras are found is so short, I recommend just loading into the Ancient Forest to get Piercing Claw rather than looking for Shamos.

Jagras

You’re probably very aware of where to find Jagras, which are only in the Ancient Forest. The caves near the map entrance have plenty of Jagras to slay and carve, and their big brother, Great Jagras, is likely in the area. Great Jagras doesn’t have any chance to give a Piercing Claw on carve, so it’s best to just let it be.

Shamos are a lot like Jagras, but they can only be found in the Coral Highlands. and The Guilding Lands in Iceborne. In the Coral Highlands, the easier area to hunt them, these are often found in the lower elevation areas of zones two and four, not too far from where Tzitzi-Ya-Ku nests and often patrols.

You can get this material as a reward for some quests, but farming a few of the aforementioned small monsters should get you enough Piercing Claw in MHW to get you by for a while.
