Enchanting is a profession that involves the creation of Glyphs. These are used to add special abilities to Armor, Weapons and Jewelry. To make Glyphs, you’ll need three different kinds of Runestones which can be found throughout the game. Enchanting requires Skill Point investment in order to make more powerful Glyphs.

Runestones (Runes) come in three categories:

  • Essence Runes (Triangle) – Determines which effect the enchantment will have, for example Magicka Regeneration
  • Potency Runes (Square) – Determines whether the enchantment effect will be increased, decreased, a buff or debuff
  • Aspect Runes (Circle) – Determines the quality (strength) of the enchantment

Each Rune category offers many different types and various combinations to make different types of Glyphs. Once created, Glyphs will have a specific enchantment (do not confuse with traits) and can be applied to items.

Enchanting Skill Line

Each unlock level is for within the Skill Line which differs from your character’s basic leveling.

Passive Ability:
Aspect Improvement – Allows use of Aspect Runestones
  • Rank 1 (Unlocks at Level 1) – Common (White) & Standard (Green)
  • Rank 2 (Unlocks at Level 6) – Superior (Blue)
  • Rank 3 (Unlocks at Level 16) – Artifact (Purple)
  • Rank 4 (Unlocks at Rank 3) – Legendary (Gold)

Potency Improvement
  • Rank 1 (Unlocks at Level 1) – Allows use of Jora, Porade, Jode & Notade (Glyphs Level 1-15)
  • Rank 2 (Unlocks at Level 5) – Allows use of Jera, Jejora, Ode & Tade (Glyphs Level 11-25)
  • Rank 3 (Unlocks at Level 10) – Allows use of Odra, Pojora, Jayde & Edode (Glyphs Level 21-35)
  • Rank 4 (Unlocks at Rank 3) – Allows use of Edora, Jaera, Pojode & Rekude (Glyphs Level 30-45)
  • Rank 5 (Unlocks at Rank 4) – Allows use of Pora, Denara, Hade & Idode (Glyphs Level 40-50)
  • Rank 6 (Unlocks at Rank 5) – Allows use of Rera & Pode  (Glyphs Level VR1)
  • Rank 7 (Unlocks at Rank 6) – Allows use of Derado & Kedeko (Glyphs Level VR3)
  • Rank 8 (Unlocks at Rank 7) – Allows use of Recura & Rede (Glyphs Level VR6)
  • Rank 9 (Unlocks at Rank 8) – Allows use of Cura & Kude (Glyphs Level VR8)

Keen Eye Improvement
  • Rank 1 (Unlocks at Level 2) – See Runes 20 meters or closer
  • Rank 2 (Unlocks at Level 7) – See Runes 30 meters or closer
  • Rank 3 (Unlocks at Rank 2) – See Runes 40 meters or closer

Hireling
  • Rank 1 (Unlocks at Level 3) – While offline a hireling will find Runestones for you
  • Rank 2 (Unlocks at Level 12) – While offline a hireling will find Runestones for you every 24 hours and has a good chance to find rare Runestones
  • Rank 3 (Unlocks at Rank 2) – While offline a hireling will find Runestones for you every 12 hours and has a good chance to find rare Runestones

Aspect Extraction
  • Rank 1 (Unlocks at Level 4) – Increases chances of extracting Aspect Runestones by 5%
  • Rank 2 (Unlocks at Rank 1) – Increases chances of extracting Aspect Runestones by 10%
  • Rank 3 (Unlocks at Rank 2) – Increases chances of extracting Aspect Runestones by 15%

I highly recommend applying your Skill Points in Aspect Improvement and Potency Improvement in order to create awesome Glyphs. These two will require 13 Skill Points between them to Max Out and open up your abilities. Hireling can be useful if you open it up immediately but you don’t need to make the investment. Aspect Extraction can be really useful to extract more Aspect Runestones from Glyphs you created but it’s not mandatory–in my opinion.
