This Dead By Daylight guide will explain why error code 8012 happens in in the first place and provide you with some of the possible fixes. There is not one definitive fix for the 8012 problem, but you can try some of the methods described below. Though, some of the potential solutions aren’t as drastic as those for error code 107.

Dead by Daylight Error Code 8012 Explained

Error code 8012 appears when players get disconnected from live services, which is predominantly caused by the game servers not working properly. However, that is not the only reason.

Check the Server Status

If you get the 8012 error message, then the first thing you should do is always check the server status of the game on the following page: Dead by Daylight server status.

If you see lots of reports on the graphic screen, then it means that there are server outages all over the globe.

The only real solution to this problem is to wait before servers go back up online, which may take a couple of hours.

If you’re playing the game on Steam, then make sure you’re not playing on Tuesdays between 1 PM and 3 PM PDT, as that’s when Steam does its weekly scheduled network maintenance test, thus rendering all online games, including Dead by Daylight, unplayable. You may get error code 8012 just because of that.

But Steam can also have random network blackouts, so be sure to check out the Steam server status right here: Steam server status.

Install or Repair Easy Anti-Cheat

Many PC games now use the EAC system in order to prevent attempts at hacking and cheating in online games. Dead by Daylight also uses this software, but if it is not installed or incorrectly installed on your PC, then it may cause game crashes, including the 8012 error bug.

In order to install or repair EAC follow these steps:

  1. Go to Dead by Daylight folder on your PC
  2. Locate the “Easy AntiCheat” folder
  3. Right-click on the “EasyAntiCheat_Setup.exe” file
  4. Select “Run as Administrator” option
  5. If it’s not installed on your PC yet, then select “INSTALL
  6. If it’s already installed, then select “REPAIR
  7. Confirm by pressing “YES

Wait for the installation or the repair to complete, and try the game online once again.

Reboot Your System

Lastly, as trivial as it may sound, fixing a problem like error code 8012 can sometimes be as simple as rebooting your PC or console (or even resetting your WiFi router).

If your WiFi is laggy, then switch to Ethernet connection instead, or maybe try mobile internet to see whether the problem gets resolved this way. These, of course, are all easy troubleshooting solutions, but they could work.

In any case, that’s all you need to know about error code 8012 in Dead by Daylight. Check out more related guides articles on our dedicated hub page.
