Final Fantasy has no shortage of iconic enemies and bosses, and many of those have made their way into Final Fantasy XIV as various trials, raids, and more. One such boss is the iconic Ruby Weapon, which players take on during the Cinder Drift trial introduced with Patch 5.2 in Shadowbringers. Ruby Weapon has both a Normal and an EX version, so here’s how to unlock the Ruby Weapon Trial in FFXIV.
How to Unlock Ruby Weapon Trail (Cinder Drift) in FFXIV
The first thing you need to tackle before taking on Cinder Drift is being caught up on all of the Main Scenario Quests through the end of Shadowbringers and up until the beginning of Patch 5.2, with the quest “Old Enemies, New Threats” that you must complete to unlock the quest to fight Ruby Weapon.
After completing that you’ll see a new quest marker pop up in The Lochs, specifically in the Ala Mighan Quarter. Head to (X:36.4, Y:31.8) and talk to the Resistance Officer to start the “Ruby Doomsday” quest.
Now simply follow the objectives and you’ll quickly unlock the Cinder Drift trial, which you can take on with a group of friends or through matchmaking.
How to Unlock Ruby Weapon EX in FFXIV
Unlocking the EX version of the trial is equally easy, but do note that you’ll need an item level of 470 in order to take it on. Once you’ve completed Cinder Drift and Ruby Doomsday, head back to The Lochs and talk to the Warmachina Fantatic (X: 11.5, Y: 22.5), which will instantly unlock Cinder Drift EX in the Duty Finder.
