How to Start the Save Vanra Quest

You can start the quest “Save Vanra” in two locations:

  • The first is the hag house where the hag survivor group stays, including Mayrina.
  • The second is from talking to Lora at Basilisk Gate.

Lora sends you to the Blushing Mermaid, a bar where you’ll ask the workers about Vanra. The problem is that they claim Lora didn’t have a daughter with her. They’ve never seen Vanra.

Find the Hag’s Lair

Next, use the Oak Door by the bar to enter the tavern’s cellar. Hop up into the little crevice, and you find that the wall on the left is illusory. Lockpick the Double Doors hidden there and you enter the hag’s lair. Your quest objective updates to send you to speak with the bar’s owner: Captain Grisly. She’s on the upper floor by the fireplace.

Confront Captain Grisly

Tell Grisly you saw the cellar and it looks like a hag lair, and she turns into Auntie Ethel. You won’t fight her here, but you need to fight her minions at the bar. She’s in the cellar, and the Hag’s Bane recipe and ingredients you get from the safe where you find Mayrina lets you save Vanra, who’s in Ethel’s stomach. Throw it at Ethel before killing her. Finish the fight with Ethel, then head to Lora’s house to turn in the quest and get your reward, which happens to be a shiny Legendary Rapier, the Duellist’s Prerogative.

And that’s how to get Duellist’s Prerogative in Baldur’s Gate 3. It’s a longer questline, but getting to Auntie Ethel and defeating her this time feels easier than in Act 1. From here, check our BG3 guide hub for more topics like all Legendary Weapons and how to get them or how to rescue Hope.
