Best Places to Farm Taken in Destiny 2

Knowing how to farm Taken enemies in Destiny 2 can make quests that require it so much easier.

The number of times you need to farm specific enemy types in Destiny 2 is too damn high, but if you need the best places to farm Taken enemies in the game, you don’t need to look far. There are three free-to-play options available at a low difficulty and two that you do have to pay for but that offer some of the most Taken per capita in the game.

Where to Farm Taken Enemies in Destiny 2

You can find Taken enemies on almost every destination in Destiny 2, but there are four locations where they spawn en masse and are incredibly easy to defeat in large numbers in a short time. Those are:

  • The Aphelion’s Rest Lost Sector in the Dreaming City
  • The Whisper Thrall Room
  • The Opening Encounter in the Prophecy Dungeon
  • The Shattered Throne Dungeon (paid)
  • The Shuro Chi Encounter in the Last Wish Raid (paid)

I’ll list them in order of ease of access and enemy difficulty, leaving the two paid options as the final entry in case you don’t want to spend money on the game.

By far the easiest Thrall farm in the game, if not the most efficient, the Aphelion’s Rest Lost Sector in The Strand region of the Dreaming City takes three minutes to complete and has almost 100 Taken to defeat. Better yet, you can repeat the entire thing simply by leaving via the back of the boss room, reaching the main Strand area, and going back into the Lost Sector.

If the Aphelion’s Rest is the daily high-difficulty Lost Sector, you can still farm Taken there with the added benefit of farming Exotics and endgame upgrade materials. Even on Legend difficulty, the Chamber of Starlight probably only takes a maximum of five or six minutes to clear with a solid build.

The Whisper Thrall Room

Before Shattered Throne, before the Dreaming City, before three entire planets were added to Destiny 2, there as The Whisper mission thrall room. The black phantom thrall there spawn infinitely and because they’re so weak, you can likely defeat them by the dozen with almost no effort at all.

To access The Whisper Thrall room, enter the Exotic mission via the Into the Light node on the Director and make your way through the platforming section until you reach the huge blue-green room. However, rather than taking the secret hole shortcut deeper into the mission, drop through the crack in the floor.

At the bottom of the pit is a dark room where weak Thrall will spawn as long as there’s time left in the mission. And because you lose nothing except time if the timer reaches zero, the only limit on how many Taken you can defeat is how long it takes you to reach the room. The speedrun of the entire Whisper mission is just over three minutes long. I know you can get through the platforming section in ten.

The Opening Encounter in the Prophecy Dungeon

I’ve listed the opening to Prophecy last here because, while the Taken Thrall and Knights spawn endlessly here as well, they do so in much lower numbers. Everything also hits much harder, even if you’re overleveled. As a Dungeon, that makes sense, and you can still defeat everything here easily as a solo player, but the Knights still hit like trucks, and the Thrall are as annoying as ever.

The opening encounter of Prophecy is not the only place with infinitely spawning Taken, however. If you’re so inclined, you can use any of the later encounters to farm as well. The main issue is dealing with the bosses or other mechanics while you’re trying to farm. The two rooms at the start are mostly empty and free of additional complicating factors, letting you farm Taken with impunity in relative safety.

The Shattered Throne Dungeon

Long a legendary Taken farm, the Shattered Throne dungeon and its infamous Thrallway were a go-to method of farming Season Pass experience, weapon levels, and much more. The catches are:

  1. You need to own the Forsaken Pack DLC to access the Dungeon.
  2. You need to complete a significant portion of the activity to reach the long hallway with infinite Thrall.

The Whisper Thrall room is both easier to get to and much less threatening overall, as it doesn’t suppress your abilities. For my money, Shattered Throne is still the best farm for seasonal event currency via its final boss fight, but there are better enemy farms.

The Shuro Chi Encounter in the Last Wish Raid

Another absolute classic, the opening few moments of the Shuro Chi encounter in the Last Wish Raid have easily the highest volume of Taken enemies in Destiny 2. You can also place a Rally flag before the door to the encounter, ensuring you have a full stock of ammo and Super energy when the fight starts.

Like Shattered Throne, there are some caveats to Shuro Chi:

  • You need to own the Forsaken Pack to access the Raid
  • You need to either reach Shuro Chi legitimately, use the Wishing Wall to teleport there, or use Checkpoint Bot to access her encounter area.
  • Once all the enemies are defeated, you need to reset the encounter, costing valuable farming time and a Rally flag for each reset.

Those qualifications aside, if you want for sheer volume of Taken enemies in a small space, there’s no better option.

And with that, you now know of five locations in Destiny 2 that are fantastic for farming Taken enemies. For more content on the game, check out our Destiny 2 guides hub.
