Does Forza Motorsport Have Free Roam? Answered

Here's whether or not Forza Motorsport allows players to free roam at their leisure.

With over 500 cars to choose from, Forza Motorsport offers racing enthusiasts a ton of variety to suit their high-speed needs. Add the 20 circuits and their various layouts, and this is a title chock-full of possibilities. However, not everyone will want to race in the traditional sense. Indeed, you may want to just take any of the available cars onto the open road and ride around freely. Here, we answer the question: Does Forza Motorsport have Free Roam?

Unfortunately, for anyone looking to take their unlocked or purchased cars out onto the open road, Forza Motorsport doesn’t have a traditional Free Roam mode. This shouldn’t come as a surprise, as the game is dedicated solely to motorsports and racing on dedicated circuits as opposed to its sister series, Forza Horizon, which encourages more open casual play.

What is Test Drive Mode in Forza Motorsport?

The closest equivalent to a “free roam” mode in Forza Motorsport is Test Drive. While it doesn’t let you cruise around an open map, Test Drive lets you take as many laps around any circuit without any objectives, time limits, or opposing cars. Ideally, this mode is used to come to grips with certain tracks while fine-tuning your car. But as a free roam alternative, it should certainly serve a purpose. In order to access the Test Drive mode in Forza Motorsport, do the following:

  • Open Forza Motorsport.
  • Go to the main menu.
  • Go to Race.
  • Select Free Play.
  • Select Quick Setup.
  • Choose your car.
  • When choosing a game type, select Test Drive.

That answers whether or not Forza Motorsport has Free Roam. For more Forza Motorsport tips and tricks, consider checking out our guides on the best cars in each tier or how to stop the game from crashing.
