The Best Ice Fishing Rod to Buy in Dredge: The Pale Reach

The best ice fishing rod in Dredge: The Pale Reach is the Glacial Lance. Before we talk about it in detail, let’s first discuss the DLC itself. Assuming you’ve already purchased and installed it, you might as well check out how you can start the DLC proper.

Once you feel that you’re ready, you should make your way to the southern portion of the world map. The area itself is encircled, though you don’t know what awaits you until you arrive. In my case, I sailed past the Stellar Basin and Gale Cliffs. The journey was long and arduous, thanks to the vast ocean between the two zones and the frozen region beyond. My character’s panic went through the roof since I was often stuck at sea even through the night.

Should You Buy the Barbed Ice Rod, or the Glacial Lance?

Eventually, I arrived at a somewhat abandoned outpost, though the Traveling Merchant was there. She sold two new fishing rods at the start:

  • Barbed Ice Rod (Ice): Four hours install time; +16% fishing speed; four slots (square-shaped); costs $240.
  • Glacial Lance (Ice and Oceanic): Three hours install time; +33% fishing speed; three slots (linear); costs $460.

The clear choice here for the best ice fishing rod in The Pale Reach is the Glacial Lance. Not only does it take up fewer slots compared to the Barbed Ice Rod, but it also has both the “Ice” and “Oceanic” modifiers. That means you’ll be able to catch fish in the new frigid region in the south, as well as the deeper waters surrounding the icebergs. The Glacial Lance does require you to pony up $460, so make sure you’ve amassed enough money while exploring.

In any case, that’s everything you need to know about the best ice fishing rod in Dredge: The Pale Reach. You may also check out a list on the new types of fish added as part of the DLC. Likewise, you can check out our Dredge guides hub.
