The Failed to Replace Files error can be caused by a few different things, such as corrupted files or antivirus software blocking parts of the game. Without all the files needed to run the game, you can’t launch it. It’s been a common, repeating error throughout the history of Genshin Impactand is rearing its ugly head again with the release of the 3.6 update. 

Is There a Fix for the Failed to Replace Files error?

There are a few different solutions you can try if you’re hit with the Failed to Replace Files error. 

  • Run Genshin Impact as an Administrator: Running the Genshin Impact launcher in administrator mode can resolve the permission issues that antivirus software can cause. 
  • Verify your game files: In the launcher, and head to “Settings.” Select “Game File Verification” and then “Verify.” This will double-check all your files to see if any are corrupted and fix them if need be. 
  • Delete vcruntime140.dll: Frequently, vcruntime140.dll is the file noted in the Failed to Replace Files error. Copy and paste the file path into your search panel to find and delete it.
  • Install the Visual C++ Redistributable package
    • Right-click on the Genshin Impact launcher and open the file location. 
    • In the files, find vc_redist.x64
    • Run the program and agree to install it
    • Restart your PC 
  • Reinstall the launcher: Uninstall and reinstall the launcher. If files are missing, this should take care of it. 
  • Submit a Support ticket: If all else fails, you’ll need to reach out to HoYoverse technical support for assistance.
