Gran Turismo 7: How to Change Camera View

Gran Turismo 7 offers several different views and perspectives to choose from. Here's how to change your camera view.

When it comes to racing games like Gran Turismo 7, different players have different preferences for camera views and angles. Some may prefer the realistic first-person perspective that emulates the view from behind the driver’s seat. Others may like to have a full view of their car’s exterior and their surroundings. So in this guide, we’ll be going over how to change the camera view in Gran Turismo 7.

How to Change the Camera View in Gran Turismo 7

You can change the camera view by pressing R1 at any time during a race. Changing angles is quick and seamless, allowing you to alternate between each camera view on the fly while staying focused on the race.

There are four different settings for camera view to choose from in Gran Turismo 7:

  • Cockpit is from the first-person perspective.
  • Chase is from the third-person perspective.
  • Clean only shows the road ahead.
  • Dash-cam is from the hood of your car.

While each camera view has its own qualities and drawbacks, the two main views players tend to prefer are chase and cockpit.

The first-person cockpit camera view tends to be the most realistic and immersive option, but it can also be more difficult as your field of view is limited. Still, it is the default option and you get to benefit from being able to use the rearview mirror in this camera view.

On the other hand, the chase camera view (third-person perspective) is a safer option, as you’ll get to see more of the track and the positioning of your car on it. However, this does give Gran Turismo 7, like in other racers, a slightly more arcade-like feel as it compromises on realism and breaks some of the immersion.

These two angles can be also tweaked to find the camera view that works best for you. To change the camera view settings in Gran Turismo 7, go to settings in the pause menu. Then choose Display Settings and select “Adjust Cockpit View” or “Adjust Chase View”.  From there, you’ll have access to a wide range of settings to tweak such as camera height, depth, and sensitivity.

There are no right or wrong camera views to use when driving, so it all comes down to personal preference at the end of the day. You just need to find out which ones work best for you in different situations. Regardless of what camera view you choose, there’s plenty of fun to be had while playing Gran Turismo 7.
