Metal Coat in Scarlet and Violet lets you evolve Scyther, and the evolution item is comparatively easy to find

Finding the Metal Coat in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is a bit more straightforward than you might expect. Where the evolution item’s appearances in previous games were usually limited to specific areas, there’s one permanent location where you can get as many Metal Coat as you want – not that you need many. For now, Scarlet and Violet only have one Pokemon who actually uses Metal Coat

How to Get Metal Coat in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

You can buy Metal Coat from any Delibird Presents location for 3,000 PokeDollars, and unlike some of Scarlet and Violet’s items, you can purchase it without any Gym badges. Delibird Presents has branches in Mesagoza, Levincia, and Cascarrafa, so if you’re in a more rural location – Alfornada, for example, or Medali – and can’t find one, it’s because the stores aren’t there.

Any branch will sell you a Metal Coat, though.

You might also see the item up for auction in the Port Marinada auction house, but like most items that go under the gavel there, the price is more than likely going to soar well beyond its actual value.

What is Metal Coat for in Scarlet and Violet?

Metal Coat’s main use is its role in evolving Scyther into Scizor. Give any ol’ Scyther a Metal Coat to hold, regardless of the Pokemon’s level, and then trade it in a Union Circle trade, and your Scyther will turn into Scizor. Hopefully, your trade partner is kind enough to send it back.

Scyther are relatively common in Paldea. You can find them in South Province Area Four, just over the land bridge from Area Two, so if you fancy adding a strong Steel type to your party even before your first Gym battle, it’s entirely feasible.

Metal Coat also boosts the power of Steel-type moves for the Pokemon who holds it. Even if you aren’t keen on Scizor, it may still be worth experimenting with to see if it helps you out in battle.
