The leader of the Neo-Salamander force, Newt Plissken from Contra ReBirth, is now a playable character in Vampire Survivors with the Operation Guns DLC. He’s a lot of fun since getting him as a playable character will involve a lot of explosives. Here’s how to unlock Newt Plissken in Vampire Survivors.

How to Get Newt Plissken in Vampire Survivors Operation Guns DLC

I unlocked Newt Plissken in Vampire Survivors Operation Guns DLC by picking up 28 Grenades. Like with Probotector and Barriers, your progress is saved across runs. Grenades are a new collectible item that blasts a wide area for high damage when picked up. They look like a shining missile and while they do deal a lot of damage, they’re not an Insta-kill item. That said, you can pretty much wipe the screen with weaker enemies.

Where to Find 28 Grenades in Vampire Survivors Operation Guns DLC

Grenades are usually found on Neo Galuga in flying silver pods. These pods with a red cross on them will appear randomly from time to time and you have to shoot them open with a directional weapon. Inside, one of the pick-ups that can spawn is the missile-looking Grenade. You need a total of 28, and they count retroactively, so you don’t have to pick up this much in one run.

I used the Mad Groove Arcana VIII for them to great effect since it drags them to you every 2 minutes. You get this Arcana by reaching the 31^st minute in the Mad Forest. Once you get all 28 you’ll get a notification that you unlocked Newt Plissken. Simply finish your run and you can then buy him from the character menu. He cost me 4351 gold coins but it ultimately depends on how many characters you’ve already unlocked. His signature weapon that you can unlock and evolve for all characters is the Diver Mines.
