Is Stardew Valley Cross Platform? Answered

Can you play Stardew Valley on multiple platforms? Here's the answer.

Stardew Valley is a farm life simulation game that was created and developed by ConcernedApe. Despite releasing in 2016, it’s still a very popular game. Because of that, it’s good to know whether it’s available for individuals across multiple platforms. So you may be wondering: Is Stardew Valley cross platform? We’re here to answer that question.

Is Stardew Valley Cross Platform? Answered

In short, Stardew Valley isn’t cross platform. Though it’s available on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices, you can’t play multiplayer with friends on different platforms. Additionally, the game doesn’t support cross progression from one platform to the next.

Stardew Valley was initially made for the PC. For this reason, there are more accessibility options available for the player on that platform. If you play Stardew Valley on the PC, you’re able to download different mods for the game, such as showing NPCs on the map, making it easier to play. Having Stardew Valley on the PC also allows you to use cheats.

If you have Stardew Valley on the Nintendo Switch, there’s still a ton of good gameplay. However, it’s harder to access cheats, and mods aren’t available. The same applies for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players.

The mobile version of the game isn’t the same experience compared to other platforms. Updates, such as the 1.5 Ginger Island, weren’t available for mobile users until January 2023, despite it being released on PC in 2020. Therefore, if you want access to new content, having the mobile version of Stardew Valley isn’t recommended.

Which Platform Should You Play On?

As Stardew Valley was initially created for the PC, I would recommend that version. ConcernedApe supports players creating mods for the game, and using these opens a completely different game for the player. ConcernedApe also stated that part of the 1.6 update will help players create mods in an easier way. Therefore, it’s likely more mods will be created for the PC game.

That answers the question: Is Stardew Valley cross platform? Though everyone has a chance to play this wonderful game on multiple platforms, they can only play multiplayer with each other on the same system. And saves live within a single platform ecosystem.
