Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl: How to Get Rock Strength HM

Strength is useful in Pokemon BDSP, but not so much as a battle move. Here's where to get it.
This article is over 2 years old and may contain outdated information

Strength in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl is the same as always, a Hidden Move that lets you move boulders. What’s changed in these remakes is how you go about acquiring and using it. You can still use the HM in battle, but it won’t be permanently anchored to your Pokemon anymore.

Here’s where to find Strength in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl and whether it’s worth teaching your Pokemon.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl Strength Location

You’ll run across Strength, TM 96, in the Lost Tower on Route 209. This is near Solaceon Town, and you can enter the tower before or after challenging the Veilstone Gym — before, if you need extra training and are having trouble against Maylene. Battle your way to the top of the tower, and speak with the old couple there.

They’ll give you three TM 96s. While you can go ahead and use Strength in battle, it’s not until you defeat Byron in Canalave City that you have the authorization to shuffle boulders around with it.

That’s quite a ways in the future, following your fights against Maylene, Crasher Wake, and Fantine, which gives you plenty of time to train a team capable of dealing with Byron’s Steel Pokemon. Once he gives you Canalave’s badge, you’re free to use Strength to move any of the grey, conspicuous boulders you run across.

As with other TMs in BDSP, you can purchase more Strength TMs from the Battle Park if you want them.

Is Strength Worth It in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl?

Strength is a solid Normal-type move, like an upgraded Tackle. There’s nothing particularly special about it, but it also has 100 base accuracy and doesn’t harm your Pokemon like other moves do, such as Double-Edge. It’s not essential, but if you need a no-frills move, you could do worse than this Hidden Move.
