Resident Evil 4 Remake: How to Beat Salazar with a Gold Egg

Ramon Salazar has two weaknesses: violence and an egg allergy. Here's how to use a rare consumable to end one of RE4's toughest boss fights in seconds.

Ramon Salazar has a peculiar Achilles’ heel. Ordinarily Salazar is one of the toughest fights in the 2023 Resident Evil 4 remake, but a fan has discovered a weird way to beat Salazar in seconds with a Gold Egg. Here’s how to fight Ramon Salazar with the power of protein in the RE4 remake.

How to Kill Salazar Using a Gold Egg

You can find two Gold Chicken Eggs over the course of the RE4 remake. One is in the isolated chicken coop on the east side of the lake in Chapter 4, and is there to fulfill the terms of a particular side mission.

The other is in the castle’s Throne Room, which you can revisit in Chapter 12 after Leon’s trip into the dungeons. You’ll need the Cubic Device to open the case the Egg is in, and it counts as one of the Castle’s treasures.

In either case, the Gold Chicken Egg can be sold to the Merchant for 9,000 Pesetas, or eaten for a full heal. In the original RE4, there was also a slim chance that chickens would randomly lay Gold Eggs, but if that’s still true in the remake, the odds must be astronomically low.

At first look, the Gold Chicken Egg in Salazar’s throne room in the Resident Evil 4 remake appears to be a free 100% heal and nothing more. However, on March 30, a streamer named Larxa posted footage of what happened when she’d thrown the Gold Egg at Salazar. On hit, it stunned him and seemed to deal a lot of damage, as Salazar skipped straight to his final phase after he recovered.

Fans subsequently used speedrunner mods to research this, and discovered that a clean hit from the Gold Egg inflicts a full 70% damage on Salazar on any difficulty. Even better, the Egg shot dazes Salazar for a few crucial seconds, which is long enough to empty a Riot Gun or Magnum into him and end the fight.

This takes a little practice. As you may have noticed before now, Leon tosses Eggs in a shallow arc in the remake, so it doesn’t go exactly where you’d think it would. You also have to make a direct hit on Salazar himself, as opposed to all the strange organic matter that surrounds him. Only an egg strike to Salazar’s weak point will do the trick.

Fortunately, if you run straight forward at the start of the fight, Salazar moves towards you to taunt you before starting his attack rotation, so you have a short window in which to paste him with your Gold Egg.

If you miss your egg toss, there’s an autosave directly outside Salazar’s boss room on any difficulty besides Professional.

There’s no particular bonus or reward for defeating Salazar with an egg. The true benefit is, as noted above, taking a really silly shortcut through one of the toughest fights in the game, which would otherwise be a bit of a resource sink.
