Resident Evil 4 Remake: How to Get the Scratched Emerald

A request in the Resident Evil 4 remake might have you searching for a Scratched Emerald in the wrong places. This will point you in the right direction.

The Resident Evil 4 remake gives a lot more reason to explore thanks to the various requests you can take on. These side quests can be something as simple as shooting Blue Medallions to finding a Golden Egg. One that’s easy to miss is the Jewel Thief request, which asks players to find a Scratched Emerald. Thankfully, it’s easy and only requires a tiny bit of backtracking. This is what you need to know about how to get the Scratched Emerald in the Resident Evil 4 remake.

Where is the Jewel Thief Request?

Jewel Thief is a request that’s only available in Chapter 12. This is the last chapter in the castle section and it begins close to a point of no return, so you’ll want to be careful not to miss your opportunity.

As soon as the chapter starts you’ll need to head into an elevator, which will take you to the gated room next to the Ballroom. Don’t get on the gondola as that will advance you to the Clock Tower and the rest of the chapter. Instead, look to the wall on the left of the gondola and collect the two request notices. One is for The Disgrace of the Salazar Family, and the other is for Jewel Thief.

The request details that a crow has taken the Scratched Emerald and that they’re somewhere in the Courtyard. While this is technically true, the memorable Courtyard maze is not where you’ll be needing to look.

‘The nest is a little bit past the maze and near the Merchant’s shop in the area. An approximate location for the map can be seen above.

Unlock the gate leading to the Ballroom and backtrack through the Grand Hall and back to the Courtyard. As you approach the maze, you’ll see a big crow resting on an archway.

Ignore the urge to shoot it and keep moving toward it. The crow will start flying away before heading through the Maze entrance on the West side.

If you’re reading this after you did shoot the crow on sight, there’s still hope. Either walk back the way you came to briefly leave and re-enter the Courtyard or just continue running forward. This thieving bird will respawn.

Move fast enough and you’ll see it land on its nest that’s built above the hallway leading to the Merchant’s shop. Don’t worry if you don’t though, since the nest is marked with a bit of yellow paint to make it easier to see. Above is an image that shows the exact location of the nest.

Take your firearm of choice and shoot at the nest/crow. The nest should break apart and the Scratched Emerald will drop to the floor. Pick it up and walk to the nearby Merchant to sell it and complete the request.

Completing the request itself will net you three Spinel. In addition to that, the Merchant will pay you 5,000 Pesetas when you sell him the jewel.

That’s how you get the Scratched Emerald in Resident Evil 4 and complete the Jewel Thief request. If you need some help getting the Capacity Compliance achievement later in this chapter or want to see what you might have missed during your adventure, check out our Resident Evil 4 guides.
