The ranks you get for completing the Resident Evil 4 remake don’t just count for bragging rights — they grant unlocks like accessories and costumes. Each difficulty level has its own ranking requirements, ranging from B to S+.

This guide goes over each difficulty’s A through S+ rank requirements, which mostly entail playtime. Only S+ has a separate requirement, and on Professional difficulty, it has a third to keep things spicy.

To receive an S+ on any difficulty, you must be playing on a brand new save, meaning New Game+ runs are exempt from S+ rankings. You can’t use weapons or Pesetas brought over from previous playthroughs for this prestigious ranking, so it will take practice to get it down.

Why Aim for S+ Ranks in Resident Evil 4?

In two other guides, I go over the accessories and outfits you can get for clearing the Resident Evil 4 remake on varying difficulties in separate guides. Three of these items, which are accessories in particular, are only obtainable via getting an S+ on three of the game’s difficulties individually. These are:

  • Clearing the RE4 remake on Standard with an S+ grants you the Deer Antlers, which increase overall knife damage.
  • Clearing the RE4 remake on Hardcore with an S+ grants you the Chicken Head, which decreases the damage you take.
  • Clearing the RE4 remake on Professional with an S+ grants you the Cat Ears, which give you infinite ammo for every gun but the Rocket Launcher.

Getting an S+ rank on Professional is no joke. If you end up saving 16 times, you’re no longer eligible for S+ and instead will be defaulted to S, even if you meet the time condition. Get that practice in, and you just might be able to get it in eventually. I haven’t done it yet, but some friends have.
