Should You Sacrifice or Spare Thickskin in Banishers Ghosts of New Eden?

Once you defeat The Beast, should you sacrifice or spare Thickskin in Banishers Ghosts of New Eden?

The first major Haunting Case of defeating The Beast ends with you choosing what to do with Thickskin. She has a lot to answer for, and Red’s decision also affects her sister Kate, an important character later. So, should you sacrifice or spare Thickskin in Banishers Ghosts of New Eden?

Sacrifice or Spare Thickskin Choice Guide: Which is the Best Option in Banishers Ghosts of New Eden?

While searching for The Beast, Red and Antea learn that Thickskin is sending people out of the settlement and giving them whistles to call for help if they need it. It turns out these whistles attract wolves and those traveling settlers end up hunted, killed, and eaten. This is how she roots out the weak.

At the end of this search, you fight and defeat The Beast, confronting both Thickskin and her sister Kate. You learn that the Beast is an amalgamation of souls that Thickskin sent to their deaths. Additionally, the ghost of Kate’s lover is also part of this hivemind. That said, the choice this Haunting Case offers you doesn’t include ascending or banishing a spirit but instead choosing whether to punish and sacrifice Thickskin or spare her.

For a playthrough where you’re trying to resurrect Antea and have sworn to do so, this choice presents some narrative consequences if you sacrifice Thickskin (unlike with your choice regarding Jacob and Benedict).

What Happens if You Sacrifice Thickskin?

Without going into spoilers for the later story, if you sacrifice Thickskin, this will affect Kate as she tries to stop you from killing her sister. Red will claim that Thickskin is possessed by an evil ghost and Banish it along with Sacrificing Thickskin. Kate’s lover Deborah will emerge from the Beast but Kate won’t be able to make peace with her and she’ll run away instead. This also means that there’s no one to pay you for taking out the Beast. I ultimately ended up sparing Thickskin as the settlement of Darkwood needed a strong leader despite her sociopathic actions.

What Happens if You Spare Thickskin

Sparing Thickskin ensures Darkwood has a strong leader. Kate makes peace with the ghost of her lover Deborah and Thickskin pays you for taking out the Beast and lifting the Darkwood curse. Whatever you choose, you’ll learn that her lover’s ghost and her death are connected with the Nightmare in New Eden, the one who killed Antea. You’ll then be prompted to progress forward and travel to New Eden. This is also where you unlock the Outburst manifestation soon after.

And that’s what you need to know about whether you should sacrifice or spare Thickskin in Banishers Ghosts of New Eden. For more Banishers guides, check out our best skills and how to find Scourge Accretion early.
