Stardew Valley 1.6’s New Crops (& How to Get Them)

Four new seeds and two new Giant Crops were added to Stardew Valley in update 1.6.

Stardew Valley’s latest update introduces a variety of new features, including a new farm layout, expanded multiplayer, and new NPC interactions. It also added new crops to grow, as well as two new Giant Crops. These are all the Stardew Valley 1.6 new crops and how to get them.

All New Crops in Stardew Valley 1.6 and How to Grow Them

There are four new crops that were introduced in the massive 1.6 update: Carrots, Summer Squash, Broccoli, and Powdermelon. None of the seeds for these plants can be purchased at Pierre’s, but they aren’t the hardest seeds to get.

Each new crop grows during a specific season. Carrots in the Spring, Summer Squash in the Summer, Broccoli in the Fall, and Powdermelon in the Winter. While exploring during the corresponding season, you want to keep your eyes peeled for windblown grass tufts and Artifact spots. Digging in these locations can yield the seed for that season’s new crop.

I find the Artifact Spots are the easiest to find. Appearing like worms wiggling out of the dirt, they stand apart from the environment. Grass Tufts are harder to spot, so I usually only end up digging them in the winter when the ground is white.

These spots spawn randomly each day across the map. Even if you’re busy completing quests, fishing, or taking care of your farm, you should do a quick run around to ensure you don’t miss out on them.

All New Giant Crops in Stardew Valley 1.6

While we know of the four new crops that were introduced, only one of the new Giant Crops has been confirmed: Giant Qi Crop. ConcernedApe posted a teaser on their X (formerly Twitter) account back in October 2023, but no other Giant Crops have been posted. If you thought the regular Qi crop looked weird full-grown, just wait until you see the Giant version.

The official patch notes don’t state what the new Giant Crops are, either. ConcernedApe had mentioned leaving some items vague or off the patch notes completely in order to keep some new content a surprise. This appears to be one of them. As soon as we know what the second Giant Crop is, we’ll update this article to let you know.

That’s all we know about the new crops in Stardew Valley 1.6. For more on the update, like how to get multiple pets, check out our extensive guide hub.
