Still Wakes the Deep devs comment on the ‘Reset the Protective Relay’ bug, stating that they’re working on a global patch, which they expect to release sometime in July 2024. Based on player feedback, this comprehensive patch will address this specific bug plus broader performance issues. In the meantime, here’s how to avoid the issue.
How to Avoid the ‘Reset the Protective Overlay’ Mud Handling Progression Bug
Unfortunately, outside of waiting for the patch to be released or restarting your game progress, there isn’t much you can do to “fix” this issue or progress Still Wake the Deep further. However, you can take steps to avoid it if you end up resetting your game progress.
The Mud Handling progression bug happens if you leave the Mud Handling room before fixing the Fuse Box. If you don’t fix the fuse box, you will be unable to enter the room again to fix it, and you won’t be able to satisfy the quest requirements.
First, you’ll know you must fix the fuse box when Finley says, “That worked, Caz! I can see where the fault is. It’s a blown fuse back in Mud handling,” during a cutscene. The second picture shows that your quest log will update with the ‘Fix the Fault in Mud Handling’ text. This is your queue to leave the Generators Room and return to the Mud Handling room to fix the fuse box.
Then, you’ll need to locate the metal cage, as shown in the picture above, where you’ll find the fuse box you need to fix. If you have problems finding it, press the hint button so the yellow dot appears on your screen. Under no circumstances should you exit the door that leads to the pump control room, which is where the bug will occur if you don’t fix the fuse box first. The map above shows where you can find general information about the area.
