Stranglethorn Vale Blood Moon Event and Rewards Guide in WoW SoD

What is the Blood Moon Event and what do you get as a reward?

With the addition of Phase 2, we have a new World PvP event to participate in. Similar to the Ashenvale event, this free-for-all takes place in Stranglethorn Vale every three hours. Here’s your guide to the Stranglethorn Vale Blood Moon event and its rewards in WoW SoD Phase 2.

WoW SoD: Guide to the Blood Moon Event and Rewards in Strangle Thorn Vale

Starting at midnight server time and every three hours afterward, the Blood Moon takes place in Stranglethorn Vale (STV) for 30 minutes. Participating can give you up to 255 stacks of Blood for the Blood Loa, which you can exchange for coins at altars. Then, you purchase items with those coins from Mai’zin.

How the Blood Moon Works

Every three hours, everybody in STV is flagged for PvP in a free-for-all style, meaning you can kill members of your own faction. This lasts for 30 minutes. Each kill gives you five stacks of Blood for the Blood Loa, up to a total of 255 stacks. You trade these stacks at altars that spawn during the event, marked by red flags on your map. This gives you coins that can be traded for items.

One important note is that being grouped with other players during the event gives you a debuff. This is done with the intention of preventing one group from dominating the event and making it difficult for individual players to participate.

How to Opt Out of the Blood Moon

Talking to a Zandalarian Emissary gives you the option to opt out of the event. These NPCs have a giant red drop over their heads, and you can find them inside STV and at locations that lead to STV to protect yourself if you’re headed there during a Blood Moon and don’t want to participate. I recommend exchanging stacks of Blood for the Blood Loa if you have any before opting out because you lose any stacks you had when you do so.

You’ll find the emissaries in STV at these locations:

  • Booty Bay: 27, 77
  • Ratchet: 63, 38
  • Yojamba Isle: 15, 15

For Alliance, you can also find them here:

  • Duskwood: 39, 5
  • Duskwood: 49, 85

And for Horde, you can find more here:

  • Grom’gol Base Camp: 31, 29
  • Tirisfal Glades: 61, 59
  • Durotar: 50,12

Blood Moon Rewards

Mai’zin is a vendor located outside Gurubashi Arena (31, 48) that sells class-specific equipment and—more importantly—two mounts. Each costs one Gold Blood Coin, and you can get the Reins of the Golden Sabercat and Whistle of the Mottled Blood Raptor. But quite a few of the equipment items he sells are best in the slot, which is true for me as a Mage since he has the Emberblood Seal as one of his three Mage items.

And that’s your guide to the Stranglethorn Vale Blood Moon event and its rewards in WoW SoD Phase 2. It’s much more approachable after going through each element involved in the event, but knowing that doesn’t make me any better at PvP.
