The DioField Chronicle is a complex strategy RPG that provides a ton of options for building up your characters. While you can only take four characters into each battle, the game actually has over a dozen to choose from, and each one is a little bit different. To best diversify your team, you’ll want to know how to unlock and recruit them all.

How to Recruit Every Character in The DioField Chronicle

There are a total of 16 playable characters in The DioField Chronicle, and almost all of them are unlocked automatically as you progress through the main story. However, there are three optional characters that can easily be missed if you’re not completing every subquest. 

Characters are separated into four different classes, and each one has its own playstyle quirks. Below you’ll find how to unlock every character in the game besides Andrias, Fredret, and Izelair, who are unlocked from the very start. 

Chapter 1

  • Iscarion Colchester (Sharpshooter): Finish the main mission “End the Bandit Menace.”
  • Waltaquin Redditch (Magicker): Finish the main mission “Redditch Estate Recon.”

Chapter 2

  • Shivat Malzin (Magicker): Finish the main mission “End the Aardwolves.”
  • Rickenback Madea (Sharpshooter): Finish the main mission “Harbinger of Discord.”
  • Optional Character: Donovar Sullion (Soldier): Complete the subquest “A Shield For the People.” Talk to Lorraine at the start of Chapter 2 to take on the quest.

Chapter 3

  • Castavere Bunnow (Cavalier): Complete the main mission “Defend Duke Hende.”
  • Estalt Yewfare (Magicker): Complete the main mission “Escort the Priests.”
  • Umarida Bareas (Sharpshooter): Complete the main mission “The Blue Foxes Laugh.”

Chapter 4

  • Tremina Umbert (Sharpshooter): Complete the main mission “Quell the Riots Again.”
  • Catherine (Soldier): Complete the main mission “Rescuing Catherine.”
  • Optional Character: Zoruaq Qigan (Cavalier): Complete the sub quest “A Warrior Gets His Wings.” This subquest is unlocked after “Truth and Lies Laid Bare.”

Chapter 6

  • Hezeliah Shaytham (Magicker): Complete the main mission “An Army Approaches.”
  • Optional Character: Chappleman (Cavalier): Complete the sub quest “Give to Those Who Reach Out.” This quest can be undertaken near the start of Chapter 6.
