Matthias Lund is the first Champion you’re likely to encounter in Wartales. As a Champion, he has his own set of attacks, and special tactics are needed to beat him. This is what we know about Matthias Lund boss fight and how to beat him in Wartales.
There are a couple of reasons to face down this formidable Wartales foe.
- Bounty Mission: Listed as hard on the board, you can take on this mission to bring Lund’s reign of terror to an end for rewards.
- You want to earn the Fatherly Love achievement for defeating the Champion of Tiltren
- The Challenge: You just want to face a new enemy that uses new skills, giving you a challenge.
How to Defeat Matthias Lund in Wartales
Where to Find Matthias Lund
If you haven’t encountered his wife, you’ll want to take the road South of Stromkapp. Follow it until you reach the Lund Farm, where you’ll find a weeping Katherine Lund.
Matthias Lund is located in the southern portion of Tiltren near the Stromkapp Mill, where he wanders the small farmland area. You’ll be able to tell it’s him by the red crown above the character’s head, signifying his boss status.
If you head into the mill first, you’ll find a scared bandit with a bunch of other dead bandits around him, slain by Lund.
How to Beat Matthias Lund
Lund can be at a variety of levels depending on the exploration system you picked. If you’re playing Region-Locked exploration, he’ll be at a lower level. Regardless of his level, he’ll be a tough opponent to face.
Lund Stats
Lund features high HP with multiple AoE attacks. He can’t be engaged, so any Valour Points earned from that are out the window in this battle. He’ll attack multiple times per round and only take DoT damage at the end of the round when he finishes his last attack. He’s the Champion of Tiltren for a reason.
Lund Battle Tactics
Here’s the short list of things you’ll need to focus on when fighting Lund. We go into greater detail below:
- Bring several Tanks characters at 15 Willpower to absorb damage.
- Bring companions with Poison, Bleed, and Backstab.
- Bring along a Crocswine if you have one for Bug Swarm.
- Let the Tanks engage Lund, soaking damage.
- Encircle Lund, minding his AoE attacks.
- Inflict Damage Over Time to melt his health.
- Heal and move characters away as needed.
Taking down Lund means preparing for the battle before you begin. You’ll want to have a few Tanks that can bear the brunt of his damage, all at Willpower 15 to avoid heading into Dying status after the first hit. This will give you a bit more time to move your companions about the map and administer First Aid.
Besides the Tanks, you’ll want as many companions equipped with Poison and Bleed abilities as possible. The main idea is to have the Tank take the damage while DoT is stacked as much as possible before the round ends. Having companions with Backstab will increase the damage dealt during the round.
If you’ve wandered to other regions in Wartales and have a Crocswine you’re not too attached to, you can make use of its death-spawned bug swarm to deal more damage. Have the Crocswine tank the first hits, die, and the swarm will trigger on Lund as he dashes about the field.
Once you’re in battle, set up where your Tank will be Marked by Lund. Get the Tank in front of him in a manner that would normally engage him. This companion will take all damage from Lund for the round — or as long as it survives.
Have all your other companions move in to attack Lund. Make sure they have some movement left to back away from him, avoiding his AoE damage. If companions do end up in the Dying state, move them away from the battle, and if you have it, get someone to First Aid them.
If you’ve stacked enough DoT on him, Lund’s health will drastically reduce at the end of the round. Repeat the process until Lund has been defeated.
