The Helldivers 2 Discord is blowing up with a message from the dev team warning players about a rogue item added to Ship Management. This mysterious Catalog Expansion has everyone wondering if it’s a bug or a feature. So what is Helldivers 2 Catalog Expansion and how to unlock it?
What Is the Rogue Item Catalog Expansion in Helldivers 2?
The Catalog Expansion is definitely not a bug and instead a metanarrative easter egg or teaser for a future update. Essentially, the rogue item Catalog Expansion is a ship upgrade found in Ship Management under Bridge that currently does nothing. It copies the description of the last ship module you selected.
A popular community theory on Reddit is that it may be an Automaton attack,, and the developers posted that Discord message to tease an Automaton update. Despite developer “warnings,” numerous players, including myself, have already tried purchasing it, and nothing has happened. The upgrade doesn’t display a cost, nor does it have any obvious effect. My guess is we’ll understand more about it in a future HD2 update.
How to Unlock Catalog Expansion in Helldivers 2
To unlock the Catalog Expansion, you need to have the Power Steering upgrade unlocked beforehand. From here simply:
- Go to the Ship Management terminal.
- Go to Ship Module.
- Scroll down to the Bridge section.
- Click on Catalog Expansion.
- Select Purchase.
No samples will be deducted from your supply if you purchase this upgrade, though it currently does nothing. It probably has something to do with an Automaton hacking attack though nothing is confirmed. We can only wait and see what Arrowhead does with this unique metanarrative teaser.
