Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (TotK) Weapon Modifiers Guide

Here's all you need to know about weapon modifiers in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Seriously.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom weapon modifiers are often overlooked compared to their Breath of the Wild counterparts, but they bring some handy effects you’ll be interested in applying to your weapons and shield. There’s only one way to apply modifiers to your equipment in TotK, and only a short list of what they are. In this guide, we’ll briefly go over how to get weapon modifiers in Tears of the Kingdom and what’s available.

How to Apply Weapon Modifiers in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

If you played Breath of the Wild, you may have already visited some Octorocks and given this a shot in Tears of the Kingdom. You’ll want to head to Death Mountain to find one, and it’s worth noting you can only do this once every Blood Moon.

As with its predecessor, TotK weapon modifiers are applied when an Octorock repairs your equipment. Yes, you read that right: repairs your equipment! Lock that away in your memory banks because you’re going to want to retain that knowledge nugget.

When you place a weapon or shield on the ground near an Octorock, it will suck it up and repair its durability while applying a random modifier. The modifiers are a boon, but being able to repair equipment is truly notable. I digress, since we’re here to talk about weapon modifiers and not the fact that I can repair my stuff (finally!).

Something that’s also worth noting is that you’ll get more powerful modifiers if you feed an Octorock a weapon that is already modified. If a weapon already has a modifier such as Attack Up or Durability Up, it will be changed to something of a higher tier upon the next application. You can cheat this system a bit by reloading your save if you don’t get what you want on the second Octorock visit on a piece of gear.

All TotK Weapon Modifiers

“Weapon modifier” isn’t quite the right moniker here since there’s one special effect just for shields. Regardless, we’re calling it that, and that’s the end of it.

Tears of the Kingdom Modifiers come in multiple levels that are indicated by color, with higher levels being more powerful. The colors are:

  • White
  • Green
  • Blue
  • Gold

When you apply a modifier to a weapon, its color in the menu will tell you its power. The better the power, the higher the numerical value of the modification.

Melee Weapon Modifiers

On first modification, melee weapons can obtain the following in TotK:

  • Attack Up
  • Durability Up
  • Critical Hit

On second modification, a melee weapon modifier can be an upgraded form of the above, or it may receive Long Throw.

Bow Modifiers

On first modification, bows can obtain the following in TotK:

  • Attack Up
  • Durability Up

On second modification, a bow weapon modifier can be an upgraded form of the above, or it might receive Quick Arrow or Shot Burst. In the case of the Savage Lynel Bow, it may be changed to Five Shot Burst instead.

Shield Modifiers

On first modification, shields can obtain the following in TotK:

  • Durability Up
  • Shield Guard Up

On second modification, a shield modifier will be an upgraded form of either of these.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom just gets more complex as we continue to pick it apart and learn its secrets. This is essentially all you need to know about TotK weapon modifiers.
