FFXIV: Fish Locations for Augmented Splendorous and Crystalline Fishing Rods

A guide to all Splendorous Tools fishing locations in Final Fantasy XIV so you can upgrade your fishing rod.

The road to an Crystalline Fishing Rod is a long one, as you’ve got to catch hundreds of particular fish to make your way there. You’ve got to know the fishing locations to get the fish you need to build your Splendorous Fishing Rod into an Augmented Splendorous Fishing Rod, and eventually into a Crystalline Fishing Rod in FFXIV.

To catch each of the fish you need on your Splendorous journey, you’re going to need a single type of bait: Select Ball Bait, which is sold by Quinnana in the Crystarium for 5 White Gatherer’s Scrips each. The cost of the bait makes this a two-fold grind, since you’ll have to keep White Gatherer’s Scrips coming in to afford the bait.

In addition to Select Bait Balls, you’ll also need to be wearing your Collector’s Glove to nab up these fish. Fish caught with a particularly high rating will grant two components on trade-in at Quinnana rather than one.

Augmented Splendorous Fishing Rod Fishing Locations

The first two fish you’ll need to get are the Clavekeeper and Platinum Seahorse for the “A Dedicated Tool” quest for your Augmented Splendorous Fishing Rod.

Platinum Seahorse Location

The Platinum Seahorse can be found in Lakeland when fishing in The Source. Turning in one with a rating of 110+ will grant two Splendorous Fishing Rod Components instead of one.

Clavekeeper Location

The Clavekeeper is in Kholusia and can be found when fishing in Seagazer Shoals. You need one of a rating of 665+ to get two Splendorous Fishing Reel Components rather than one at turn-in.

Crystalline Fishing Rod Fishing Locations

The next upgrade quest is “An Adaptive Tool,” and for this you’ll need to fish for Mirror Image and Spangled Pirarucu to get your Crystalline Fishing Rod.

Mirror Image Location

You can get Mirror Image from Handmirror Lake in Il Mheg. This one requires a rating of 21+ to turn in for two Adaptive Fishing Rod Components instead of one.

Spangled Pirarucu Location

Meanwhile, you’ll find Spangled Pirarucu in Lake Tusi Mek’ta in Rak’tika Greatwood. Ones you catch with a rating of 998+ can be turned in for two Adaptive Fishing Reel Components instead of one.

After many casts and a lot of Select Bait Balls, you’ll have gathered enough components to upgrade the regular old Splendorous Fishing Rod into an Augmented Splendorous Fishing Rod, and then finally into a Crystalline Fishing Rod. With that done, you can move onto our other FFXIV guides such as how to get other Splendorous Tools or how to unlock Loporrits Beast Tribe.
