Control Guide: How to Get the Compel Ability to Seize Your Enemies

The compel ability in control gives you the power to seize your enemies. To get it, you'll need to solve the X-ray Lightbox puzzle in the Hypnosis lab. Here's how to solve the puzzle.

There are five different powers in Control. Launch and Evade are easy to get since they’re on the game’s optimal path. However, Compel — or Seize as the game also calls it — is a power that’s harder to get.

Along with the Shield ability, Compel is found as part of a side mission. Specifically, it’s part of the “Captive Audience” side mission found in Hypnosis Lab, which is found in Parapsychology.

Puzzle Solution

To get the ability, you’ll need to access the X-ray Lightbox, which is behind the barrier at the back of the Hypnosis Lab. It’s the Object of Power the guards were looking at when you first entered the room.

This puzzle is similar to the HRA machine puzzle. However, it’s not as intense as you only need to solve for one hexagon.

The terminal for the solution can be found in the room on the right-hand side of the Hypnosis Lab. While the answer is pasted to the glass wall of the anteroom just before the terminal, here’s the solution so you don’t have to look for it.

To fill the hexagon as it is shown above, input the following directional commands:

  • Up
  • Right
  • Down
  • Left
  • Up
  • Right
  • Down
  • Left

That will fill in the correct portions of the hexagon, unlocking the terminal. You can now interact with the X-Ray Lightbox. Finish the Astral Plane challenge to get the Psychic Occupation trophy/achievement.

That’s all you need to know about how to find and get the Compel ability in Control
