Figuring out how to teleport in Minecraft opens up a world of infinite possibilities. Without it, you can’t explore a seed’s every nook and cranny, and you’ll miss out on valuable resources because of it. However, there are tricks that let you jump to any coordinates at any time. Our guide tells you how to teleport in every version of Minecraft, including all of the commands you’ll need to use.
How to Teleport in Minecraft Survival Mode
Method 1: Ender Pearl
If you don’t want to use cheats to teleport in Minecraft, you’ll need to obtain an Ender Pearl. Unfortunately, Ender Pearls can’t be crafted. Instead, you’ll need to look for them in Stronghold chests or by killing Endermen mobs.
When you have an Ender Pearl in your possession, you can throw it wherever you want to teleport. You can then use the following actions to jump around the map depending on your version of Minecraft:
- Java Edition: Right-click.
- Pocket Edition: Tap where Ender Pearl lands.
- PlayStation: Press “L2” button.
- Xbox: Press “LT” button.
- Switch: Press “ZL” button.
Method 2: Chorus Fruit
Chorus Fruit is an edible item that can be found in The End and obtained from the Chorus Plant blocks. It can be used either for restoring health or for teleporting a short distance: no more than 8 blocks in any direction and no more than 2 blocks high.
Using a Chorus Fruit to teleport is the same as using an Ender Pearl. Throw it where you want to teleport and use the same actions to jump around. However, it’s important to note that Chorus Fruit won’t let you teleport through the water blocks.
Method 3: Nether Portal
Nether Portals can teleport you from the Overworld to the Nether and back. Unlock some other teleportation methods, you can’t choose where you spawn when using Nether Portals. When using one, you’ll be teleported to a location within 128 blocks of the original coordinates.
Nether Portals can be crafted using at least 10 Obsidian blocks, and they can be activated using any source of fire. You may also find ruined Nether Portals in the Overworld that are easy to repair, saving you valuable time in building them yourself.
Method 4: End Portal
End Portals can teleport you from the Overworld to The End and back. End Portals can only be found inside Stronghold structures, and they can’t be crafted through ordinary means. Most Strongholds have End Portals in their own rooms, though it’s possible to find a Stronghold without one.
Before you can teleport using an End Portal, it must first be activated using 12 Eyes of Ender. You can craft Ender Eyes using the following recipe:
- 1 Ender Pearl
- 1 Blaze Powder
Method 5: End Gateway / Exit Portal
End Gateways spawn all over The End, including both the central island and out islands. These portals allow you to quickly teleport between different islands in The End. Once you defeat the Ender Dragon, an End Gateway appears on the outer rim of the central island, allowing you to quickly explore the rest of The End.
Exit Portals also let you leave The End as soon as you defeat the Ender Dragon. The Exit Portal always spawns at The End coordinates 0, 0, and it always teleports you to your original spawn point in the Overworld. Since this is the endgame portal, anyone who enters the Exit Portal for the first time will see the end credits.
How to Teleport in Creative Mode
Method 1: For PC and Mobile
You can use cheats to teleport in Creative Mode, so make sure you’ve activated them in the game settings. This applies to teleporting in Minecraft Java Edition, Bedrock, and Pocket Edition.
With cheats activated, you can teleport to any coordinates by using this command:
- Press “T” to open the console
- Type in command “/tp x y z”
- Press Enter
The “x, y, and z” values correspond to the coordinates of your choice. For example, if you want to teleport to coordinates 100, 75, -12, then type in “/tp 100 75 -12”.
Method 2: For Consoles
Unfortunately, the console versions of Minecraft don’t allow you to teleport to any coordinates. You can only teleport to another player in multiplayer mode.
Follow these steps if you want to teleport to another player:
- Go to Game Options menu
- Select Host Priveleges option
- Press “B” on Xbox or “circle” on PlayStation
- Load the game
- Press “X” on Xbox or “PS” on PlayStation
- Select Host Options
- Press Teleport to Player
Lastly, choose your friend’s name in the list, and you’ll be immediately teleported to their coordinates!
Method 3: Teleporting to Friends on PC
If you’re playing a multiplayer session on PC with a group of friends, but you don’t know their coordinates, a simple command can teleport you to them.
- /tp [your Minecraft tag] [your friend’s Minecraft tag]
If you’d rather your friend teleported to you, use this command:
- /tp [your friend’s Minecraft tag] [your coordinates]
And that’s how to teleport in Minecraft. Teleporting in each edition is a little different, and console players don’t have the same options as other platforms, unfortunately.
