Some Scarlet Nexus gameplay trailers showed what some thought could be co-op multiplayer. But does Bandai Namco's action RPG actually have multiplayer?

Scarlet Nexus has two protagonists: Yuito and Kasane. You can choose whichever protagonist you want to play as when starting out, with each having different story beats, companions, and weapons. However, is the latest action RPG from Bandai Namco multiplayer? Can two players team up in Scarlet Nexus co-op?

While it might seem that the dual-protagonist approach leaves room for multiplayer co-op, that’s not the case. Unfortunately, for those hoping to join the OSF and take on the Others with a friend, Scarlet Nexus is not multiplayer

Whether you choose to play through the game as Yuito or Kasane, combat encounters will play out mostly the same. You’ll have access to AI-controlled companions you give orders to, and you’ll fight the Others with similar powers.

According to our review, as well as many others, it’s worth playing through the game as each character to experience everything it has to offer, but teaming up with friends isn’t possible.

So, will Scarlet Nexus ever have multiplayer functionality or cooperative play? It’s hard to say for sure. Bandai Namco hasn’t mentioned adding any such modes to the game, and from the time of the game’s announcement, there’s been no mention of multiplayer.

While Scarlet Nexus is a single-player experience for now (nothing’s impossible, and multiplayer could be implemented at some point, though again, it’s not been mentioned), that doesn’t detract from the experience in our eyes. We praised Scarlet Nexus as a must-play action RPG in our official review.
