All Golden Walnut Locations in Stardew Valley

These parrots only accept Golden Walnuts as payment. Here's how to find some.

After you get to Ginger Island in Stardew Valley, there are a lot of mysteries and secret locations to uncover. However, to do so, you’ll need a particular currency to pay the parrots around the island — Golden Walnuts. Here’s where to find all of them.

Where to Find All Golden Walnuts in Stardew Valley

There are around 130 Golden Walnuts in total to find around Ginger Island. Not all of them are found in the same way. Some you can find hidden directly in the world, while others require you to perform a special puzzle or action.

They are very important to have around Ginger Island because they are the currency you’ll need to pay the parrots, opening up new areas and locked locations.

Here’s how you can get all of them:

Ginger Island North Side – 48 Walnuts

At the very northern side of Ginger Island, around the Volcano and within it, you can collect up to 48 Walnuts.

  • Inside the Field Office tent

  • A curved palm tree sticking out of the side of the cliff to the left of the Volcano
  • A circle of stones in the sand on the left side of the Volcano
  • Bush with a walnut hidden behind a tree on the right of the volcano entrance
  • Palm tree hanging off the side of the volcano above the Parrot Express
  • Secret passageway through the trees to the west of the volcano
  • bridge leading to two walnut bushes
  • Entrance in the clfifside to the volcano dungeon, and two walnut bushes beside it
  • Lava forge area of the volcano with two walnut bushes near the exits
  • In the ground at the center of a circle of rocks, just southwest of the Trading Hut x1 – Use your hoe to dig in the center.
  • In a Walnut bush through the secret passageway, west of the Trading Hut x1
  • In the ground between four flowers, southeast of the Trading Hut x1
  • In the ground under a small circle indention x1
  • In the ground under a lumpy sand spot, east of the Island Field Office x1
  • Complete the Large Animal Collection in the Field Office x6
  • Complete the Snake Collection in the Field Office x3
  • Donate a Mummified Frog to the Field Office x1
  • Donate a Mummified Bat to the Field Office x1
  • Finish Purple Flower Survey in the Field Office x1 – Correct answer is 22.
  • Finish Purple Starfish Survey in the Field Office x1 – Correct answer is 18.
  • In the ground in the middle of the rock smiley face, to the right of the Volcano entrance x1
  • In the ground in the middle of a circular indention, northwest of the Volcano entrance x1
  • In a Walnut bush hidden behind a tree, just southeast of the Volcano entrance x1
  • In a palm tree hanging off the right side of the volcano x1 – You can use a slingshot to knock it down.
  • In a Walnut bush through the secret passageway, west of the Volcano x1
  • In the ground in the middle of teardrop made of stones, up the ramp from the Dig Site x1
  • In Walnut bushes up the ramp and across the bridge to the right from the Dig Site x2
  • In a Walnut bush up the ramp and across the bridge to the left from the Dig Site x1
  • At the Volcano Dungeon entrance x2
  • In Walnut bushes near the Volcano Forge, at the entrance and the exit x2
  • In the Volcano Dungeon, within random chests, monsters, and mining ores x17

Ginger Island South Side – 12 Golden Walnuts

You can get a few more Walnuts on the southern side of Ginger Island around the docks.

  • Yellow starfish forming a square
  • Fishing in tidepool shaped like a starfish
  • A mermaid rock in the middle of the ocean at tidepool beach
  • A patch of dirt in the middle of barrels
  • Pirate cove party with a dart board up
  • In a Walnut bush on the edge of the cliff above the resort x1 – Go up the ramp to the crossroads, immediately turn right, and head through the tree to reach the bush.
  • In the starfish-shaped tidepool x1 – Use a fishing pole to fish it out.
  • In the ground between four yellow star fish x1 – Use your hoe to dig it out.
  • In the ground on the far right side of the Pirate Cove x1 – Follow the wooden pathway to the east of the starfish tidepool into the Pirate Cove. Then head down to the bottom right corner and use your hoe to dig in the empty spot between the barrels.
  • Win a game of Darts in the Pirate Cove x3 – Visit the Pirate Cove after 8 pm on a non-rainy night. Each time you win Darts you earn one Walnut, winnable three times.
  • Complete the Mermaid Song puzzle x5 – On the starfish tidepool beach, head there on a rainy day to find the mermaid on the rock and stones scatted on the beach. Place flute boxes under each stack of rocks and tune them based on the number of rocks (big rocks count as 5). Then, run past them from left to right to play the right tune.

Ginger Island East Side – 11 Golden Walnuts

These are all the spots and tasks to complete on the island’s eastern side, mostly near Leo’s House, where you’ll get the Walnuts. You can also find a secret chest here in the jungle with some free Tent Kits.

  • Placing a banana on the altar below Leo's Hut and gorilla coming out
  • The tree in Leo's Hut
  • Secret bird shrine area with walnut below in the trees
  • Secret bird shrine area with four different pedestals
  • In the bush just south of Leo’s Hut x1 – Shake the bush with M2 to collect it
  • At the altar just outside of Leo’s Hut x3 – Place a banana on the altar to receive three walnuts from the gorilla
  • At the tree in Leo’s Hut x1 – Hit the tree with an axe
  • At the hidden Bird Shrine, east of Leo’s Hut in the trees x1 – Follow the stone path just below Leo’s Hut to the shrine and look just below the pedestals
  • At the hidden Bird Shrine, east of Leo’s Hut, by completing the Gem puzzle x5 – Follow the stone path just below Leo’s Hut into the hidden area to the right. Then, visit each location to collect the right gem to place in North, South, East, and West pedestals. These are the spots you’ll find them:
    • North: Just south of the Island Field Office Tent.
    • East: On the path heading toward Leo’s Hut.
    • South: On the southwest side of the beach above the docks.
    • West: On the west side of the farm beside the pond.

Ginger Island West Side – 46 Golden Walnuts

After finding all the east-side Walnuts, you can begin searching for all these Walnuts hidden on the western side.

  • Giant frog in cave with quest
  • Bush with a walnut in it north of the farmhouse
  • Dig spot southeast of the farmhouse in a corner of the cliff
  • Breaking Oyster nodes on the beach with a pickaxe
  • Three blue starfish in the sand forming an upside down triangle
  • Inside the shipwreck with a bush holding a walnut
  • Three chests placed down on the beach and a green worm creature poking its head up beside it
  • Two blue starfish and two yellow starfish in the sand creating a square
  • An x marked in the sand near the tidepools
  • Four indentions in the sand creating a square
  • Woman sitting and fishing on the beach below a hut
  • Walnut in a bush beside a pond, west of the farmhouse
  • Spot in the sand dug up above Birdie's hut
  • A walnut in a bush just below Qi's purple door
  • A walnut in a bush above Qi's purple door on the small stretch of beach
  • Flowers behind a tree forming a circle
  • Walnut in a bush behind a tree
  • Walnut in a bush on the edge of the cliff beside the tiger slime area
  • Walnut in bush above a large patch of trees
  • Cave with glowing standing stones
  • Four flowers forming a square next to the Parrot Express
  • Weed patches forming a path to the right of the flower patch
  • From the Gourmand Frog in the cave northeast of the farmhouse x15 – Complete the frog’s quest by growing and harvesting Melon, Wheat, and Garlic. Then, bring them to him.
  • In the bush on the hill above the farmhouse x1 – Head up the stairs, through the trees, and around to the left to collect it by pressing M2.
  • In the ground southeast of the farmhouse x1 – Look for a little corner of the cliff where there is a palm tree growing out of the cliff, and use your hoe to dig up the ground. It’s the only spot that will let you dig next to the cliffside.
  • South of the farmhouse inside Mussel Nodes x5 – Use a pickaxe to break open the Mussel Nodes, finding up to five Walnuts randomly.
  • In the center of three blue starfish forming a triangle x1 – Use your hoe to dig up the ground in the very center of the starfish.
  • In the hidden Shipwreck room, south of the farmhouse x1 – Follow the circular sand steps leading into the shipwreck on the beach and collect it from the bush.
  • By hitting the Whack-A-Mole on the beach, just to the left of the Shipwreck x1 – Cover up three of the holes with placeable objects (I used chests), and then hit the green mole with an axe or pickaxe.
  • In the center of two blue and two yellow starfish, above the tidepools x1 – Break the big rock covering the starfish. Then, use your hoe to dig in the very center of them.
  • In the ground at the x marks the spot, at the tidepools x1 – Use your hoe to dig up the ground right on top of the ‘x.’
  • In the ground between four indentions in the sand, southwest of the tidepools x1 – Use your hoe to dig up the ground in the center of the four indentions.
  • Complete the quest for Birdie, fishing north of the tidepools x5 – Speak to Birdie to accept the quest, involving finding objects around the island and returning them to their owners.
  • In the bush near the pond, west of the farmhouse x1
  • In the ground, north of Birdie’s hut x1 – Use your hoe to dig up the ground above Birdie’s Hut, at the very edge of the dark sand.
  • In a bush just southeast of Qi’s purple door x1
  • In a bush on the edge of the beach above Qi’s secret room x1 – Head to the left of Qi’s purple door and follow the sliver of beach upward until you spot the bush.
  • In the ground in the middle of a circular grass patch, in Tiger Slime area x1 – It’s slightly hidden by a tree. Use a hoe to dig up the ground in the center.
  • Kill Tiger Slimes x1 – Kill Tiger Slimes to get one Walnut by random.
  • In a bush hidden behind a tree in the Tiger Slimes area x1 – Head up the stairs to the Tiger Slimes and go toward the left to the bushes at the cliff bottom.
  • In a bush on the cliff edge in the Tiger Slime area x1 – Head up the stairs to the Tiger Slime area and immediately turn right. Follow the edge of the cliff down and around, using your pickaxe to break through the rocks. You’ll spot the bush with the Walnut at the edge beside the stream.
  • In a bush toward the middle of the tree patch in the Tiger Slime area x1
  • By completing the Simon Says game in the secret cave x3 – Just above the Tiger Slime area near the bridge leading over to the Parrot Express, north of the farmhouse. Enter the cave and complete the Simon Says game.
  • In the ground in the center of four flowers, southeast of the Parrot Express x1 – Use your hoe to dig it up.
  • Venturing through the secret passageway southeast of the Parrot Express x1 – Follow the weed path to the right and up to find a Walnut bush.

Ginger Island Activities – 11 Golden Walnuts

Along with these more specific locations, there are some other activities you can complete to earn Golden Walnuts as well. These are mostly random occurrences, but can only happen a limited amount of times, considering there are a very specific amount of Walnuts to get.

  • Harvesting Crops x5 – Harvesting any crops grown on Ginger Island can drop a Walnut.
  • Fishing x5 – Fishing anywhere on Ginger Island can give you a Walnut.
  • Golden Coconut x1 – The first Golden Coconut you bring to the blacksmith will give you a Golden Walnut.

Once you collect these Golden Walnuts, you can visit any of the Parrot stands around the island. Paying the parrot there a walnut will allow them to open up a new area for you to continue progressing. Your leftover Walnuts can be used to claim Qi Gems at Qi’s Secret Room. That way you can earn some other special rewards, like Perfection Waivers!
