Best Shadowheart Gear in Baldur’s Gate 3

Shadowheart can fill many roles in your party, depending on her subclass. Whether she’s a healer with Life, a frontliner with War, or a blaster with the Tempest domain, various items work great on her. Here’s my best Shadowheart gear in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Best Shadowheart Magic Items in BG3

The Whispering Promise, Hellrider’s Pride, and Wapira’s Crown

These three items are the core healing pack for Act 1, Act 2, and perhaps some of Act 3. Whatever subclass you choose for Shadowheart, these synergize perfectly with her innate healing spells like Cure Wounds or Healing World. Here’s what they do and where to find them:

• The Whispering Promise: This ring gives the Bless effect (+1d4 on attack rolls and saves) for 1 turn on a target you heal. This turns Healing Word into a Bonus Action attack roll buff spell, which I love on Rogues and Great Weapon Master and Sharpshooter feat users. Buy it from Volo in the Druid Grove or your camp.
• Hellrider’s Pride: Works like the ring, but instead of Bless, it gives a target the Blade Ward effect for 1 turn, which gives them Resistance to physical damage. Again, this drastically buffs your healing spells. I love casting this on frontliners to allow them to tank better. This is a quest reward for completing Investigate Kagha.
• Wapira’s Crown: Shadowheart has to stay healthy, too, and Wapira’s Crown heals her whenever she heals another target. This is your reward for killing all three leaders of the Goblin camp and accepting Zevlor’s reward.

Interestingly, all three items work with throwing healing potions for a much more effective heal. I recommend you split your party and control them one by one. Group them all up in one spot and throw a healing potion with Shadowheart for a powerful AOE heal that benefits from all three items above. This is an incredible out-of-combat healing method, and Shadowheart will get a double heal both from the potion and from Wapira’s Crown.

Luminous Armor Set

The Luminous armor set is arguably one of the most powerful item combinations in BG3. Essentially, it consists of the Luminous Armor, the Luminous Gloves, and the Coruscation Ring. All three of them apply stacks of Radiant Orb on an enemy when you deal Radiant damage with spells like Spirit Guardians or Sacred Flame. The status effect reduces enemy attack rolls by -1 for each stack, and with all three items, you can stack up to 8 to 10 stacks per turn.

I highly recommend combining all three items and using Spirit Guardians to spread Radiant Orb on multiple enemies, essentially making each enemy miss every turn. In my Luminous armor guide I discuss their locations and the exact build to make a powerful Shadowheart debuffer and tank.

Ketheric’s Shield

Shadowheart works great with Ketheric’s Shield because it not only boosts her AC but also boosts her spells. More specifically, you get a +1 on all spell save DCs and spell attack rolls. Furthermore, you have Advantage on Dexterity saving throws, and you can Shield Bash melee attackers as a reaction. Loot this from the Ketheric Thorm boss fight.

Hood of the Weave and Cloak of the Weave

Both of these serve a similar function of drastically boosting your spell save DC and spell attack rolls. The Hood boosts it by +2, and you can buy it from the Mystic Carrion in Philgrave’s Mansion. The Cloak boosts them by +1 and gives you Absorb Elements as a reaction to defend against elemental attacks. I highly recommend both to boost important spells like Hold Person, Spirit Guardians, Banishment, etc.

Spellcrux Amulet or Amulet of the Devout

The Spellcrux Amulet is a must-have for spellcasters because it can restore any spell slot with a Bonus Action. You can cast Level 6 spells twice with this item. Loot it from the Warden beneath Moonrise Towers in the dungeon where you rescue the Tiefling prisoners. Alternatively, the Amulet of the Devout is also a powerful option to boost your spells and get a free Channel Ability charge. However, getting the Amulet of the Devout from beneath Stormshore Tabernacle can be tricky, so be careful.

Markoheshkir or the Staff of Spellpower (Or Both)

The Markoheshkir staff and the Staff of Spellpower, both of which allow you to cast a spell for free, aren’t just for arcane casters. Shadowheart can make great use of both. For example, you can summon two Planar Allies after the first one dies. Furthermore, the Markoheshkir can give you extra elemental spells like Chain Lightning and Lightning Bolt, which I used to great effect on my Tempest Shadowheart build. You can also dual wield the Markoheshkir and the Staff of Spellpower if you have the Dual Wielder Feat and combine both of their effects.
