How to Cook in Abiotic Factor

Learn how to cook and keep that hunger meter filled up in Abiotic Factor.

Abiotic Factor is a co-op horror comedy game with a unique twist. Unlike similar survival titles like Lethal Company, this multiplayer game set in a parody of the Half-Life universe has an actual story, which follows a group of scientists as they get through the aftermath of alien contact.

To survive through the whole story, players will need to keep an eye on their scientists’ needs. That includes learning how to cook in Abiotic Factor.

How to Cook With a Pan in Abiotic Factor

Using a pan is by far the easiest way to cook in Abiotic Factor. You’ll need 2 items: a pan and some kind of meat. While the pan can only cook meat, other materials can be made into food with a cooking pot. That said, meat is dropped by most enemies, making it the most common source of food in the game.

Here’s an extra tip: you can create Bio Scrap by overcooking alien meat in a pan. I wouldn’t suggest you do this, as you’re much more likely to have extra Bio Scrap than food. Still, this trick can be useful in the right circumstances.

More importantly, you should know how to extract edible meat from aliens. You probably know that the Pest, the most common of all hostile creatures, turns into Bio Scrap after you step over it. To make it into ready-to-cook meat, you should kill it without stepping on it. Then, you can use a kitchen knife to turn its body into food. The same is true for most other biological enemies.

How to Cook Without a Pan in Abiotic Factor

There are two ways to feed yourself and your friends without using a pan. The first is to eat fresh or canned food without cooking it at all. This kind of food is easily found inside vending machines, but the option becomes less and less viable as the game evolves.

Alternatively, you can use a cooking pot. This is by far the hardest way to create food, but it can lead to better results. To use a cooking pan in Abiotic Factor you must first raise your cooking skill to Level 3. That said, there’s no need to farm experience points: you’ll soon improve your cooking skills by performing this action naturally. If you want to raise your level quickly, make sure to grab the Nutritional Advisor job or the Hobbyist Chef trait.

Once you raise your cooking skill high enough, you can get started making soup. Find a stove, grab a cooking pot, and fill it with water. Now you can start adding ingredients, which will influence the kind of soup you will create. Most combinations will result in creating “Bad Soup”, perfectly edible but nothing special, while other dishes usually grant special bonuses.
