How to Switch Characters in Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League

Here's how to change between Deadshot, King Shark, Harley, and Boomerang in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

Many games don’t let us seamlessly switch characters while in combat. Changing my Task Force X characters to use new skills at will is great fun. King Shark beats them up, and Deadshot blasts them. Here, I’ll tell you how to switch characters in Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League.

How to Change and Select New Characters in SSKJL

You can easily switch between characters in the open world at any time in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. The game even lets us do so in combat but not during missions. It’s one of my favorite mechanics because it creates unique combos in open-world sections. To change characters in SSKJL:

  • Hit the Switch button in the lower right corner (the left D-pad for me on PS5).
  • Select the character you want to switch to by choosing their symbol on the radial (Diamond for Harley, Crosshair for Deadshot, Fin for Shark, and Boomerang for our favorite Aussie).
  • After a brief animation, you change to the new character.

Why You Should Switch Characters in Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League

Mixing Abilities and Traversal Skills

Changing characters gives access to multiple character-specific playstyles and combos in a single open world fight. You can also use different traversal mechanics for different situations.

I main King Shark for his knock-up dive and use it to engage enemies. But I then switch to Deadshot for his sniping abilities and switch back to blasting with Shark. Additionally, I like climbing tall skyscrapers with Boomerang but prefer moving across the map with Deadshot’s jetpack.

Shared Character Progression

Another reason to switch characters regularly is that skill progression is separate for each character. If you play King Shark for several hours but don’t play Deadshot at all, Deadshot is at Level 1 when you switch to him. However, I recommend playing a maximum of two characters at the beginning. Spreading your playtime too thin can produce too many underpowered characters.

Shared Loadouts and Cooldowns

Furthermore, weapons, shields, and grenades are shared across characters, and signature move cooldowns are also shared. Pay attention to each character’s loadouts and use signature moves strategically if you want to switch to another character for that reason.

Can You Switch Characters in Co-Op?

You can’t switch to a specific character in co-op if your friend is also playing that character.

Is It Worth Using Psyched Characters in Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League?

Before each mission, one character in your squad gets Psyched. This gives that character bonus damage and experience during the mission. All characters can get Psyched, but the order is random.

I found that it’s not always worth it to play as the Psyched character if you don’t like their playstyle. It’s much better to focus on one or two characters at first and get them leveled and geared up. If you’re lucky and you get multiple missions in a row with the same Psyched character, great. If not, spreading XP around too much can lead to weaker characters for later content. Besides, the XP boost you receive from the Psyched status isn’t major.

That’s how to switch characters in Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League. For more SSKJL guides, check out how to emote or add friends for custom squads.
